1.5.26 doesnt work

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 4:40 pm

According to the nexus Im not the only one experiencing this, but Skyrim wont launch at all upon the 1.5.26 update. Of course I thought 'well must be a mod issue". So i removed all mods and no change. 'Interesting' update. ANyone else having problems?

Mine wouldn't load a save till after I deleted the ini files in the My Documents folder and rebuilt them. After that there were lots of arifacts and low frameworks and ati's vpu kept stopping crashes until I went to steam and rebuilt the cache. Removing mods hadn't helped. After the cache was rebuilt, fps was still low (20-30, from 40-50 before the latest patch),but most of the flickering disappeared. Skyrim has stopped crashing and putting the mods back in made no difference.

Did you also delete the added .esps from the mods?

Which wouldn't matter due to the fact that some mods change game files....try a TOTAL reinstall including the .ini files left over cleared out too.

Yes I had relocated all esps and backed up and deleted relevent mod scripts/strings. Nothing to do with mods. Looks like its an issue with steam not downloading the update correctly. Verified game cache and files were missing and have now be 'reacquired'. All is now fine :)

Make sure you remove all dll files that aren't part of a normal Skyrim installation. That includes files installed by ENB, Skyboost, Script Dragon, etc., as these are not mods that you can "enable" and "disable." They need to be manually removed.

1.5.26 is running fine for me.

Glad to hear but that was my point taking out those scripts and strings is like pulling pieces from a Jenga tower....once gone verify the cace replaces them. I however don't trust steam to rebuild or replace anything in part and thus I recommend a reinstall.

+1
Easiest way to get clean install:
- Uninstall
- Delete leftover files (mod files that don't get deleted by uninstall script) from \Steam\Steamapps\Common\Skyrim
- Delete ini files from \My Documents\My Games\Skyrim
Sorted.

Hang on, my bad. It was actually just Script Dragon after all - doesnt play nice with the update. usually, I get an error message upon launch telling me that script dragon is causing the problem. Because I have removed/bypassed the intro video I no longer get that message. Thats why it was difficult to tell.

No matter. Everything works great now. With 80+ mods things are actually really stable with this setup ;)
