CTD when entering DB either sanctuary

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 6:15 am

I posted this in the "Crashes during gameplay" thread a few days ago, didn't get any help. Thought I may try again here.

Hi, I haven't played Skyrim this year at all until today, and have been absent from the forums for an even longer amount of time. I got on to play today, and wanted to collect some gear from the Darkbrotherhood sanctuary in Dawnstar which I use as my home before I embarked on some dragon killing quests. Everytime I try to enter either BD sanctuary, I immediately CTD. That's if I phycially click on the doors, or type in the code "coc darkbrotherhoodsanctuary."
Other than this, I can play the game as usual. I normally would just move on as I have completed the DB quest line (spoiler:? but i havent fnished any of Nazir's missions, even the first one where you kill Hern.) but I have tons of gear in there that I would like to access.

Thanks.

In addition, i have upgraded to the most recent BETA patch, where as before I was completetly uptodate on patches excluding the BETA. The issue persists, and I cannot enter either DBS through the doors or by console command.

I have the same issuse in Falkreath/DB sanc and have tracked the issue to bloated save game corruption. I've tried everything to fix my issue all those so called 'fixes' unoffical patches, running with low settings, reinstalling the game, varifying the cache blah blah blah....

Started a new guy today and *huzzah!* I am able to run to Falkreath without CTD.

My main character is lvl 45 with about 150 hours gameplay and save game files just over 9meg...... I even tried resting for 30+days that was supposed to clean up clutter and reduce save game size but that didnt work either.

So I have come to the conclusion that once you reach a certain point in bethesda games your save file becomes either too large, or just breaks and you will get CTD's at increasing locations untill you shoot yourself and quit playing.

I am a level 33, with only 48 hours played. Many of those hours are just riding around to no end. This is incredibly frustrating.

In other forums I have seen it reported that if you use mods that "alter" the world of an area, and have another mod that alters or adds stuff to that same area, if there is any overlap the game will CTD right at loading.

I believe they state that if the two mods add some item to the same world space that will cause a conflict and crash. In previous games they reported that you could fix this by arranging the load order of your mods but this game will not function that way.

I have not tested this myself but the OP that reported this did write down his test methodology and it seemed pretty sound. Try looking to see if you have any mods that do something to this specific area or worse if you have multiple mods that alter this cell. Good luck.

If anyone else have mods, try disabling Sound of Skyrim - Dungeons, it helped for me with same problem
