Early Game Items

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:05 pm

I'd like to use this thread as a consolidation of items that are easily accessible early on, in a new save file. I think it's important because the gameplay is rewarding enough for multiple playthroughs.

I will be adding the few items I know of that fit the description.

Please, feel free to add on.

- Orcish sword outside Whiterun, in a ditch being clutched by a skeleton hand.
- Elven dagger on the nord woman who runs the Riverwood inn. Have to pickpocket it.
- Dwarven dagger in the general goods store in Solitude. Must be stolen.
- Steel plate armour on the female merc you meet inside the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. Obtain it however you see fit.
- Scaled boots, helmets and gauntlets on the Stormcloak soldiers during the jagged crown quest. At least one will usually die.
- Scimitars on the shipwreck on the north coast.
- Dwarven arrows inside Solitude's fletcher. Must be stolen.
- Elven armour and weapons from Thalmor patrols. Can talk them into attacking you so they can be killed without getting a bounty.
- Dwarven weapons and armour inside the Dwemer museum in Markarth. Must be stolen.
- Staff of magelight next to the Jarls throne in Solitude. Must be stolen.
- Various enchanted jewelry worn by the Jarls. Must be pickpocketed.

Forsworn are - to my knowledge - the most powerful weapons that you can always find at level 1, apart from Skyforge steel.
I haven't visisted any Orcish strongholds yet, is it safe to assume you can always find Orcish gear there?

Skyforge Steel Dagger can be stolen from Aela the Huntress.
Hooded Thalmor Robes can be found at the Talos shrine that is near the first bandit camp from the tutorial.

There is an ebony greatsword on the hillside behind Solitude, you cant miss it. The hill leads to the sword.

Jorrvaskr has a Dwarven Greatsword and a Elven Bow
Dragonreach has a Elvensword
Dwemer Museum in Markath has all of the Dwarfen Weapons and Armor.

I think this Thread is quite interesting, lets keep it up.

I'd like to say that you can find a full set of Orcish armor in one of the Orcish strongholds, but the game can now spawn levelled items out in the open. So I'm not sure on any other guaranteed locations.

Nope that is always there. The armor is part of the quest "The Cursed Tribe." Malacath requires a full set of Orcish armor and a Daedra Heart to be summoned, the shaman only wants the heart.

I know 3 staffs in Winterhold;

Grand staff of Repulsion - Jarl's Bedroom.
Staff of arcane authority - Behind a counter in Frozen Hearth.
Staff of Frost Atronach - Arch mage quarters on a shelf.

First 2 have high value and can be sold to fences for good gold.

Also east of Windhelm a shack, Traitor's Post has levelled armour on a shelf (found steel & glass).

If you're referring to the place with the 3 burial urns, it had an Orcish Greatsword for my save.
No ebony, still not too shabby when you're using Iron :)

I dont remember any burial urns, as it was just the weapon and some alchemy reagents. The bit I mean is just a stone platform taht juts out a bit right at the top of the hill up at the snowline. Its been ebony on two different characters, so I thought it was always ebony

Aye, the snowy path fades and you then follow a couple stone steps, then there's that small platform. My save had 3 burial urns and an orcish greatsword, anyway.
I literally just went there as soon as I read your post. (At least I think I'm in the right spot..)

If your on the PC you can type in the console player.recycleactor and The player's inventory is replaced with a full set of Iron Equipment(Armor/Shield/1H weapons/Iron Arrows x23),a longbow, a potion of light feet, 5 Potions of Minor Healing/Magicka/Stamina(5 of each), 2 potions of resist fire, a potion of the warrior, the book of the dragonborn, 10 lockpicks, and 2 torches. This is best used at the start right after your hands are freed, since you lose anything you already had before the command was used. This makes a great starter set, and is the only way to get a full set of heavy armor for the tutorial.

Im guessing you can get the sacrificial daggers (ebony quality) at the Boethia shrine at any level. All the worshippers carry one.

That varies from depending on level... When i got there in low levels it was just a steel sword.. when i got there on my other character there was a Dwemer sword there!

It's a reference to that ''lady in the lake''/king arthur thing...

But you can get a full set of heavy by following Ralof (the stormcloak) into Helgen Keep during the tut, and the first enemies you encounter are the female guard captain and a lackey, right? The guard captain has all heavy armor, including the guard captain helm that looks like something out of the Trojan War. Players should probably want to kill her anyway, as she's the one who said "forget the list... he goes to the block!" REVENGE, BIYOTCH! NOW I'M TAKIN' ALL YER STUFF! :)

You can get a full suit of Ebony with a little work fresh out of the gate. I got the bow and sword as early as level 5. Valygg (sp) next to the Labryinthian has the bow, and a draugr cave in the Reach has the sword (maybe Chillwind Depths). Both require killing a deathlord early, but with proper tactics this can be done on master early. Each higher altitude or more difficult Nord tomb I've found runs into atleast one deathlord with ebony or spawns a static ebony item.

You can get as many full sets of Elven Armor as you want from the Thalmor Guards in North Watch Keep up near Solitude. I went there for part of the short side quest Missing in Action where you have to rescue Thorald Grey-Mane from Thalmor custody. I did this really early on in my game. Gathered as much Elven Armor I could find. Sold all but one set and made a whole lot of gold from it. Kept going back for all the rest. North Watch Keep has plenty of good stuff in it as well. The quest isn't to difficult for early level characters. Talk to people around Whiterun and they'll mention speaking to Fralia Grey-Mane about her missing son. From there go through the steps of the quest. Or you could just go there and bust up the place without worrying about poor 'ole Thorald.

You can find the Transmute Mineral Ore spell in Halted Stream Camp just outside Whiterun. The bandit leader there carries either an enchanted steel 2h wepaon, or a Orcish 2h weapon. When I played with my Orc he had an Orcish battleaxe, and when I played with my nord he had a Steel Warhammer of Shocks. It might depend on what race you are, but the Bandfit Chief is an Orc. There are also 8 mammoth tusks, 50 iron ore (that you can transmute into gold ore with the above spell), 3 corrundum ore, a couple pieces of steel armor(dropped by the bandit chief) and some other misc. enchanted armor parts

There is also the Helm of Yngol in Yngol Barrow just outside Windhelm. Only one enemy inside and can be difficult. I tried this with my lvl 8 Orc specializing in 2H, and was able to easily beat Yngol's Shade in a few hits, but tried with my lvl 9 Nord and was quickly dispelled. It's heavy armor, looks cool, 30% resistance to frost, and easy to get.

You can also get a full set of Ancient Nord Armor by going into Forelhost and killing one of the Dragon Cultists in the first room and then leaving. But it gets pretty difficult later on inside.

I have 3 new good ones and I just checked them both at Lvl 1.

Staff of Fireballs - Once your facing the thalmor embassy front gate turn right so your facing east and head that way till you come to an alcove that will have a snowy sabre cat. Run past it and jump up to the right of this alcove and just ahead on the sloped hill will be a blood stain and skeleton with steel weapons in it, the staff is resting by the tree.

Steel Plate Chest Piece's - The Black Briar Lodge which is located directly east of Riften has 3 mercenaries outside that are wearing the steel plate cuirass.

Levelled War Axe (Random Enchantment) - Shrine of Talos west of Windhelm, at statue drop down underneath to find the axe near a rock. (At lvl1 was iron with 5 fire damage, higher level was orcish with 15 absorb magicka).
