Nearly every time I visit, two dozen guards and a posse of citizens are chasing a single brown-clad thief and beating him to death for stealing some bowls and candlesticks. Now, this was amusing at first but the thing is that nobody in Skyrim seems to care about clearing away corpses.
I've started picking up the ones that I find and hauling them over to a pile in front of the Argonian jeweler's stall. It's no longer a small pile.
I attempted a Heist job for a jewel in the blacksmith's strongbox in Riften. A thief had somehow spawned inside the shop, and was running around like crazy, unable to get out. He was driving me mad and interfering with my stealth attempts, so I finally pegged him with an arrow and pinned him to a barrel in the basemant.
A minute later, one of the apprentice blacksmiths came down the stairs, saw the poor guy's corpse, and said "what a waste." Which made me feel awful, because clearly he hadn't been a thief at all but was actually some kind of leather gimp staying there with all the other burly dudes. My bad.
A few hours later, I was doing the thieves' guild quest involving breaking into Mercer Frey's house and/or getting past his backyard guard Vold. I had just knocked down the secret ramp with a bowshot, and I was circling around to enter the yard... when Vold noticed something and actually unlocked the unlockable gate himself. Yep, Vold had spotted another dead thief.
"What a waste," he said, kneeling over the corpse just outside the Temple of Mara. And then he noticed me and came after me in public. Hilarity ensued.
Nobody picked his corpse up, either.

In my game the bodies are cleared though. I killed all the guards in windhelm and riften as i hated them, and some time later most of the bodies disappeared. I kinda wish they didnt disappear though
