Hi noob here,

im stuck at the embassy bit, where you have to sneak upstairs, its driving me mad!

also im not sure i gave the elf enough of my gear to sneak in, cos when i look in the chest there is only a dagger


any help would be appreciated thanks.

Erm...I'd imagine that you can't continue if you can't complete it

I'd suggest just going back to a previous save or something and giving more of your equipment to the guy. My cousin did the same exact thing when he went through this quest: Gave just a dagger because he missed the dialogue and didn't want to give his equipment away. He miraculously made it through the area.

If you don't want to go back to a previous save (or can't) then I suggest being REALLY sneaky with that dagger. You can find almost every type of armor/weapon at the embassy that's suited to your level if I'm not mistaken, so the entire place is fully stocked up with stuff if you're able to get around initially. Just be careful and use stealth to find stuff there that can help.

Protip: You don't need to sneak. I just went in there swords swinging and killed everything I saw with yellow skin.

I dont have a sword

When you got back your stuff (a dagger for you? ) you can just close the first door on the left where are the first two aldmeri.
Then go to the right room very slowly in sneak mode. There you have an elf armor and weapons I believe.

Like I said, there should be ample equipment in the area xP all you really need to be able to do is make it past the two/three initial Thalmor guards right outside the kitchen and you'll be able to scavenge for what you need.

Gotta say im finding this part of the game really difficult... ive got past that bit now in the dungeon , keep getting detected. arrrggggh

What's wrong with getting detected?

Because i have no weapon apart from a crappy dagger...
