Best Nvidia Driver

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 3:58 pm

Hey guys. I went back a few days and couldn't see any relevant topics, sorry if I missed one.

All going well i should have my GTX 570 tomorrow. What's the best current Nvidia driver to use for Skyrim, and generally everything else?

I'm not adverse to using beta drivers if needed :)

I use 296.10 and have not had any issues. I've actually noticed some better performance over the 285.* drivers that were released back in November. Though, I run a GTX 260 so your mileage may vary there.

With every driver, there are always some folks who have problems, but I generally use the newest certified drivers and have never had any problems.

i had to stop using the 296.10 drivers because the drivers kept crashing while watching youtube videos. This is a known problem and alot of people are suffering it, so be aware.

@Reckless Wonder

Same here, those drivers gave the same Pink Screen of Death that the beta ones did.

I would highly recommend driver version, 295.73. These have been solid for me.

Also I always use Xtreme G drivers as I love the FPS boost they give in some games and IQ is nicer.

Assuming you intend to keep your Skyrim game up to date, you should be using the latest version of the drivers, 296.10. It has been confirmed that some of the issues reported with shadows were addressed by updating the video drivers (I believe the thread I'm referring to is in the now-closed beta forum). It seems clear that Bethesda tests on the latest available drivers.

@B1gBadDaddy

There based on NVIDIA's drivers, but there tweaked to give either better IQ, better Min FPS and overall performance is generally better.

I like 'em and I've been using their tweaked drivers for ages and they've always generated nice results for me, there recent 295.73 tweaked drivers gave me about 5 - 7 more FPS in Metro 2033 on Very High if that means anything lol.

I think they also provide tweaked ATi drivers too.

EDIT: http://www.tweakforce.com/ , take a read and you'll see what I mean :D

Use current official. Even with a GTX 460 OC'd I stay in the 50-60 FPS range almost everywhere (cities included).

Yup, this game has come leaps and bounds from where it started. GTX 580 1.5gb currently running the latest Official Release.
My system is in my stats, and with a Frame Limiter at 60FPS, the games runs AMAZING on Ultra, i just edit the particles down a bit because on that setting Fog and Smoke (especially during the Intro scene) cause some huge FPS hits, especially with AA Enabled. Besides that, 60 FPS everywhere, even in cities now *yay!* fluctuates to 58-59 when loading stuff (i can handle that!)

Have fun with your nVidia, I was an AMD user of a 5770 before my switch. Not going back to AMD anytime soon, not their GPU's anyway... :)
