Skyrim has stopped working... need help...

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 10:00 am

Hello all. So my issues is this. Every time I open the skyrim launcher and click play an error message comes up saying "Skyrim has stopped working."

I have no idea why it does this... I have reinstalled the game about 5 times, validated my steam cach about 60 times, and I have the latest drivers on my HD Radeon 6850 installed. Infact funny enough the only way I can get my skyrim to play is if I reinstall the newest drivers and dont reboot my computer. It plays but I have to reboot my computer and then the issue is still there again and I just cant play.

Does anyone know how to fix this!? I realy need help....

(My )Documents/(My )Games/Skyrim

INI files are stored there.
The ones in the Skyrim directory in Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim are templates and/or defaults and shouldn't be touched under normal circumstances.

You only needed to delete the INI files.

Have you tried rolling your drivers back to see if that resolves the issue?

Also, when did this start happening? As in, what event caused it?

You have "Hide Known File Extensions" turned on in the Folder Options, then. They show up as Configuration Files.

Try the 12.1 drivers and see if it continues. Make sure to do a clean driver install by wiping out the other drivers first.

Try running the game as administrator.

Meh figured it was worth a mention....my game only runs in admin when I use SBW and it used to crash pre 1.3 if it wasn't run that way as well.
