Default FoV Doesn't seem to change and map clouds questions.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:19 am

Hello.
So I got two little problems:
1. I can't change my FOV to work all the time , I need to enter the game and change it again in the console each session.
2. I don't get clouds in the world map ( I know people hate it but I love it ) , how to make them return ?

I know these are just Ini issues and I hope anyone can provide me a solution !

Normally, disabling clouds is done by adding this in your skyrim.ini:

[MapMenu]
sMapCloudNIF=0

Change that to =1 to get those clouds back.

Add these lines under [Display] in your skyrim.ini to permanently adjust FOV:

fDefault1stPersonFOV=90
fDefaultWorldFOV=90
fDefaultFOV=90

I used 90 here, but use whatever you wish.

I may be wrong but I leave the last line 65 and my FOV holds...I use 80 for the other two.

That probably works, too. This is an old .ini tweak I found back when there was a lot of experimenting. This way works for me, so it shouldn't matter.

I remember reading that if you increase the bottom line inventory items appear stretched as well as a few other things. Could you check your inventory graphics and see if they look weird?

I just checked to make sure, but they look fine.

Hello.
So I got two little problems:
1. I can't change my FOV to work all the time , I need to enter the game and change it again in the console each session.

For an existing game, you need to set the FOV in the console (e.g. fov 90) and create a new save, exit Skyrim and relaunch. The FOV value is saved in the save game file. For new games, setting the appropriate variables in the ini files is sufficient. However, if you don't have the correct variables in the ini files, the FOV will revert to the default whenever the view changes. This can happen when fast traveling, during area transition, first/third person transition or when zooming with a bow. The correct ini values are as follows:

In Skyrim.ini:

[Display]
fDefaultWorldFOV=xx
fDefault1stPersonFOV=xx

In SkyrimPrefs.ini:

[General]
fDefaultFOV=xx

Set xx to whatever you want.

You may be fine doing that. I haven't done extensive testing with a configuration that leaves fDefaultFOV at a lower value. I have read that it governs the display of the interface, but it may also be tied to the FOV determined when a new game is created. I don't see any display issues when this is set above the default, so I'm inclined to believe it governs new games primarily. There may be scripted events that cause the point of view to change (killcams perhaps?), and I don't know if this value will potentially reduce the current FOV as a result.
