Has anyone else noticed that Brynjolf in Riften is completely invulnerable to all damage or is it just my game?

There should be an option to turn off essential npc's or something.

You can use the console command "setessential" if you are playing on PC.

Its their franchise, they can do as they please.

Id much rather developers did what they wanted, rather than be ruined by the forces of economic theory.

But that is no longer how things work, deal with it.

best argument is basically making no argument am i right?

they shouldnt be essential at all and i continue to voice my thoughts, deal with it.

what is even more messed up, MORE messed up, is that I am done with the empire/stormcloak quest. I did not seek out stormcloak camps but I got pretty close to one by accident, decided for some payback for the empire. 6 dead stormcloaks and ONE UNKILLABLE LEADER. so..ulfric no long essential, but this dude it?

I call shennanigans

I was in Solitude, fighting the guards their after witnessing the execution. Then I went to the docks and this argonian theif kept attacking me! I wasn't even fighting her! I kept downing her but she would not stop and finally killed me, at least in Oblivion they would flee. I would much rather execute a key Thalmor official than have to take sides in the war for some characters, but I can't because they're essential. There was another time while I was attacking an imperial camp as a stormcloak, but the captain there was essential! Can't they be marked non-essential once you pick a side? I re-loaded after that because the camp had wounded in it, but it's just so frusterating when your having an epic battle and then some essential character tries killing you. This also happened while excaping the Morthal prison with the Forsworn, 2 essentials were attacking and killing me while fighting me way out of the corrupted city. I also wanted to kill that evil Maven Black-Briar but I can't... because she's essential.

Jumping on, there are WAY too many unkillable and a better method of dealing with them should have been in game.

EG - only Main quest storylines are truly unkillable. Side quest and faction quests should go down once, a message should pop up saying "This NPC is necessary to finish a quest line, yield and he will revive without attacking you; or kill him again to disable the quest."

ET voila, no one is going to accidentally lock themselves out of a quest and no one is an unkillable god NPC except the Main quest line NPCs. After the Main quest is over, those NPCs become killable.

There are just WAYYYY too many unkillable NPCs and the Civil War Faction camp leaders are the poster boy of what went wrong. Mod needed to stop this nonsense, and a patch needed for the consoles. What were the designers thinking anyway?

Yeah, there are far too many essential NPCs in the game. In my opinion, they should make everyone mortal and let the player deal with the consequences of killing quest givers.

At the very least though, they should've handled the wounded sequence a lot better for the essentials. Instead of kneeling to the ground for a minute than resuming their attack on me, an essential NPC should lie on the floor appearing fatally wounded, but eventually end up being taken either back to their house to recover or to some kind of house of healing (perhaps once i've left the area). They should then stay there for anywhere between 24 hours to a week (during which time they're obviously not available to give quests) before returning to their normal activities. And upon their return, they should acknowledge what has happened. If they saw the player strike them, then obviously they should take a hostile tone towards the player... perhaps even refusing to talk to them further unless they're persuaded. If they didn't see the player strike, they should simply comment on how they've spent the past few days recovering from a serious injury.

If you don't want them to be essential, then do the Main Quest and the Civil War and then they should not be.

Besides, kicking apart Ulfric's Rebellion is much better than just killing him.

Now, as to why they are essential, they are to the Main Quest and the Civil War, not sure if the Civil War is part of this or not. And, their deaths could dramatically effect the story of the Main Quest. Bethesda is not so worried about the player killing these people off, but the game killing these people off.

I have done the main quest and the civil war, and despite that I was told there were Imperial camps left to clean out, when I try I find the commander is always essential :(

Hopefully thats a bug that will be patched.
I would also like to see essential status cleared when you have completed all quests for other NPC's.

So why are the Imperial Legates and Stormcloak Officers still essential after finishing the Civil War quests and you're even asked to wipe out any remaining camps?
