Big pixels in screen : V

This is the first time I've tried playing Skyrim since the newest patch (1.5 something), and when I loaded up my file, there were huge blue square's throughout my screen! I automatically made sure all my mods were updated, then also tried disabling them and neither fixed it. I've changed my video settings around a bit too. Is this an issue many people are seeing as a result of the patch, or is this something easily fixable?

happened to me too, last week
it was my fault (i think) because i was screwing with my videocard settings
otherwise it was just a coincidence because it started happening after i made some unnecessary adjustments
i tried everything to get rid of it

i updated my videocard drivers and it went away

if there arent any updates for your cards drivers, then i have no idea what else you can try
reinstall them maybe?

it doesnt make any sense i agree

i wouldnt reinstall the game- i dont think that has anything to do with it
but updating the card fixed the problem for me

unless it fixed itself just like it broke itself

Not just any file--drivers. It's the software that allows your OS and applications to interact with your hardware. Without GPU drivers you'd be up a creek without a paddle, and the same is true if the drivers are coded improperly or are just plain buggy. They can cause issues ranging from blue screens to poor performance to the weird pixellation we got with Skyrim's AA + 12.2.

This is the first time I've tried playing Skyrim since the newest patch (1.5 something), and when I loaded up my file, there were huge blue square's .. snip

Had the exact same problem after updating to the latest patch. Started a new vanilla game, had it re-make my ini files, set to ultra then to high. Still the pixels are there.

I'm going to revert back to the previous patch and check that. I haven't re-uploaded my graphics drivers cause when checking I got the message that they were up-to-date.

Edit: Just went to the previous patch and that still didn't work so I rolled back my video drivers. It worked in my case. Seems the latest video drivers for Amd didn't like skyrim on my system.

Uninstall your current driver completely, reboot, then install the latest 12.3 driver.

Not just any file--drivers. It's the software that allows your OS and applications to interact with your hardware. Without GPU drivers you'd be up a creek without a paddle, and the same is true if the drivers are coded improperly or are just plain buggy.

the game stopped working simultaneously as new drivers became available on the website
its borderline paranormal but it happened to me as well

perhaps amd has some kind of auto-update that were not aware of, and something changed in our videocard properties which resulted in the pixeling

I'm running catalyst 12.3 drivers currently and having the same issue.. Ill try re installing them and see how that goes, but any other suggestions if it doesn't? I've also tried re installing skyrim and that didn't do it either.

Complete uninstall - reboot - install official 12.3 release.

That should do it. Drivers are the only cause for this problem.

If you guys haven't solved it, you need to turn off anti-aliasing. I had that problem a while back, and it's an issue with Skyrim's recent updates, not your drivers. Try switching off anti-aliasing in the launcher options and see if that fixes it.

If you're referring to the pixellation http://i.imgur.com/PNmEy.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/4ASOF.jpg, no. No, it is not a Skyrim problem. It was a problem introduced by the 12.2 AMD drivers which was fixed in 12.3, and had nothing to do with any game patches in between.

The reason it was "fixed" by disabling Skyrim's AA is because in-game AA was what the 12.2 driver set had an issue with. The problem was still with the bad drivers, not with Skyrim.

Besides which...disabling AA is a bandaid fix frankly, and a poor one at that. The only true solution for this issue is to scrub 12.2 entirely and either move on to 12.3 or roll back to an older driver set. Turning AA off just hides the problem. It doesn't fix it.

Until it is, there's nothing else you can do besides disable AA (or roll back drivers), which no one in this thread has mentioned prior. What's your install date on those drivers? 12.2 had an issue where somebody had made a typo and they incorrectly reported in the Catalyst Control Center as 12.3, despite actually being 12.2. If your 12.3s were installed prior to March 28th (the release date for the "real" 12.3s), then you still have the bad drivers and need to upgrade.

If you have the correct/real 12.3s and still have the issue, it's been reported that the issue doesn't go away unless you clear out the 12.2s by uninstalling and doing a clean install of 12.3. Have you tried that? (I'd recommend uninstalling the old drivers before installing a new set with any driver upgrade, but that's beside the point.)

I'm telling people it's been fixed because it has been...you just have to make sure you have the right drivers and have done a clean upgrade. I've logged 10+ hours in Skyrim on 12.3 (after a clean upgrade from 12.1) at this point, with AA enabled, and haven't seen a single stray gray box.

Hmm, yeah, I see my last update was March 12th. I'll try a clean install, see if that fixes it. Thanks.

I did a fresh install and it did fix the pixel issue so far.. but .. it added a new issue.. my screen now randomly turns black and crashes my comp, cant alt + f4 and cant ctrl+alt+delete to bring up task manager nor can I reboot unless I do a hard boot. So it completely locks me out of my comp.
