Sword & Board roleplaying

I'm curious what some of you playing sword&board characters are limiting yourselves to, or after extensive gameplay, what kind of concessions you had to make in terms of magic. My ideal is along the lines of Conan, who while he mistrusts magic seemingly, he doesn't hesitate to make use of it if that means not being eaten alive by some monster.

And that being said, my other question is purely film related (to the Arnold film)....was his sword magic? He looted it from that tomb, and it was clearly of better constructrion than his father's sword, but just curious if some of you would think of it as magical (in terms of the film) or just better.

I wish Skyrim had weapons of better construction in the loot finds in-game. Either magic or non-magical isn't much fun. It'd be cool to find an 'epic' sword' early into the game, so that you stick with it until you pretty much finish the game.

Conan! What is best in life?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Sorry, totally had to.

Well, my current RP character who is a very strict one. He has to wear clothing in cities/towns (If he is staying more than a day), can only change armour in a 'safe spot', has to sleep/eat etc. He doesn't use magic, not because he mistrusts it, just because nothing beats a sword/axe/mace to the face. :)

However, he will still use potions as it's not very magical, although the properties are.

I'm looking forward to running a Conan style Nord character after I'm done with my current assassin style character. I'll likely still use magical weapons and armor and use potions but I won't cast spells of any sort.

I don't recall REH's Conan using a magic weapon ever, but perhaps I forgot a rare instance. In the movie, the sword from the tomb is an ancient Atlantean sword, not magical but forged with long lost techniques and skill, etc.
