Favorites key won't work after rebinding

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 9:47 am

When I played in mid/late december, I had a mod or something that fixed this, but now that I just started playing again and made a new game, it's back with a vengance.

I'm an ESDFer and I CANNOT use F as my favorites key. I use C. But when I press C it will bring the favorites menu up when I'm in game, but won't favorite something in the inventory. I can't find a mod or fix for this even though I've been searching for the past hour.

Please help.

I believe the bug has been fixed in the beta patch.

Until then, and if not, search the nexus for Key Bindings, there's a mod that fixes it which I use :)

god thank you I just used the wrong "words" in the search bar when I looked earlier. I was searching for "favorites" and "favorites fix".

You're my hero for today. Pretty sure that was the same mod I HAD, but I'm sure it got outdated with one of the 26000 patches that have come out so far.

I tried that mod too, but it isn't doing anything for me. The odd thing is, I could add stuff to the favorites menu yesterday, but now it's not working. I also found out that you can hotkey stuff like in Oblivion, but that doesn't work either. What gives?]

Open your inventory (or spells) menu, select any item and hold down the F key (which in your case should be remapped, so you would use the C key instead), this should add a small arrow beside the item. Then during play at any time in-game you can press the "Q" button to call up your favorites list. If you select any item on your favorites list and hold down a number key (1-9 I believe), it will hotkey that item, spell, shout or power to the button you pressed.

Did they fix key mapping? I don't remember seeing that in the changelog.

Tried that. In fact, I tried every key on my keyboard, in case it got remapped to something I didn't assign - nothing works. The only way it works is if I delete/rename the controlmap text file, but since I use the numpad and left-hand mouse, that's not gonna happen.

Then during play at any time in-game you can press the "Q" button to call up your favorites list. If you select any item on your favorites list and hold down a number key (1-9 I believe), it will hotkey that item, spell, shout or power to the button you pressed.
That's the way I know it to work - that's in the manual. I thought they'd streamlined the process like in Oblivion, but I guess not. :(

If pressing C brings up the mini "favorites" menu in game, that's different from the key that is used to add things to that menu. In vanilla, F adds items to the menu, and Q brings up the menu. You've remapped Q to C, apparently. That is why C does not work to "favorite" things in your inventory.

The same key that changes POV is the key that adds items to the favorites menu. If you know what that key has been assigned to, then you should be set.

But wait. There's more. It's not just a matter of the key displaying incorrectly in the menu. You literally cannot remap certain keys/controls without breaking command functionality. Remap 'F' or POV and you lose the ability to favorite items. Remap 'Q' or 'Favorites' and you lose access to the favorites menu altogether. Remap 'T' or 'Wait' and you cannot recharge enchanted weapons. Also, you cannot reassign the numpad. Isn't that great?

I'm not experiencing this bug, and I have remapped a number of keys, including remapping T, F, and Z. The helptext still displays incorrectly, but I am still able to add things to my favorites list without any hassle, as long as I remember what the new key is. My previous reply was meant to clarify that if anyone is trying to add items to their favorites by using the same key that brings up the favorites menu- that's not going to work. They are different actions using different keys.

Well, that's great if they fixed it. They did so silently though because I don't remember seeing it listed in any changelogs.

That's because Bethesda didn't fix it. It *is* possible to remap the keys you mentioned, but only by using a utility like Skyrim Key Helper, or manually creating/editing a controlmap.txt file. It just boggles the mind how they can completely (and blatantly) ignore an issue like this - it's like they're trying to make things more annoying.
