Patch 1.3 & Absorption of Dragon Souls (PC)

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:03 pm

The patch appears to have fixed the backwards / teleporting issues in dragon flight. However, I can no longer absorb dragon souls.

After I kill a dragon the body just sits there. No absorption, no animation of the body decaying into a skeletal form either.

I'm not running any mods and other than the resistance / dragon flight issues introduced in the last patch I haven't experienced any bugs or crashes, etc. so there is a strong chance this is patch related.

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll patch this patch a month from now.

Was it a random dragon? I know when I went to one of the dragon dens, and killed the boss dragon a second time I got no soul for killing it, and thats 1.2 patch. Positive it isn't a den/boss dragon you've previously killed?

It's not a den I've previously killed. I only came across this den in 1.2 and didn't kill the dragon since it flew backwards and teleported great distances when I hit it with magic. So I never saved after I went there and thought I would try it again in this patch.

Confirmed on a second den that I've not visited before either, no absorption.

Will keep updated if I get any absorbs at all now.

I've experienced this same thing. Cleared one place, then much later in the game, went to kill the dragon living there with the Blades and could not absorb his soul.

I had that happen once before the patching. I don't think it's the 1.3 patch. The time it happened to me, the dragon fell into water and died. No incineration, no soul. There will be more dragons.

Maybe its just something that I was lucky enough to avoid in the past.

I was able to absorb the souls of dragons in nests I had previously cleared before (I know I did this with the 20th one I needed for the achievement.)

Tested this today as follows:

3 New Lairs: 1 Absorption only, 2 Non Absorptions
1 Previous Lair: 1 Non Absorption

Oh well maybe it will be fixed in a an upcoming patch.

I'll be happy that resistances are back at least :)

Yes.

LOL.

This is why I haven't updated/patched my game yet. I'm waiting for it ALL to be ironed out before I let someone fiddle with what has been a virtually bug-free game for me.

That crap happened to me all the time before the 1.2 patch, but it never happened again since. Looking forward to dealing with that issue again.

At least magic resistance is fixed, right?

...Right? That's all I care about.

Also: I like how Bethesda labels a lot of the problems they fix as "rare" occurrences. I think I've experienced every single issue that they described as "rare," which means they are not rare at all or I'm a special boy.

I haven't downloaded any patches since the day-one patch, and this has happened to me once in a random encounter. I've absorbed a few since, so ... what can you do?

Maybe that particular dragon had already sold its soul to some higher power for a SnuggieTM that could fit it properly.

No biggie.
