2H Axe... the perks for the axe end up paying off much more than the other weapon types, plus the 2H sword and 2H axe actually swing the same speed, despite what the ingame loading tips say. We tested it in another thread, and had an exhaustive debate about weapon types, damage per second, etc. You can see for yourself, if you like:

A 2H hammer swings slowly, but does the most damage per hit. Don't bother getting specialization perks for the Warhammer, because very few enemies actually have/use armor, and none of them have much in the way of armor skills to make the perks worth investing in. For example, Dragons have zero armor. You can check this yourself by using the console if you have the PC version.

Also, with high smithing skills and appropriate perks, any self-improved weapon will do more damage than so-called fabled artifacts like Wuuthrad. That's in the thread, too. :)

I was a bit disappointed because the Companions questline was the first I finished, so I got the Wuuthrad, now 60 hours later, I still haven't found a better weapon. It's of course nice to "get familiar" with your weapon. Much much later I came across a named warhammed, Volgensung or something that had the same stats as the Wuuthrad, so I gave that to Lydia :)

So you're telling me I completely wasted 3 perk points for the 75% armor reduction on my 2h orc zerker?

I'm curious - I must have missed something as I'm not following the thread closely these days - if dragons have zero armor, why does Marked For Death which does a subtraction to the target's AR have such a visible impact on its life bar with the same type of attack? Does Marked For Death work differently than what was described in the Wikia? Or is it that dragons have zero armor, and Marked For Death reduces it to negative numbers and the game continues to calculate final damage with that figure?
