Skyrim save crashes after I uninstalled a mod

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:23 am

Well, yeah. Lately I've been ignoring the message you get before you load a save after uninstalling a mod that says something like "This save relies on content that is longer loaded, some things may not work" or something but now I've actually been effected by the side effects of uninstalling mods. When I click "OK" to dismiss the message before loading one of my saves, the game just crashes. I think reinstalling that mod would probably fix it but I don't remember any mods I uninstalled recently because I haven't played the game for a week and a bit.

Can someone help me? I would rather have my main save file work again. I install mods with Steam workshop by the way, if that helps.

I've had 2-3 other character save files that got destroyed by mod related issues and another from a different issue. The reason why I actually keep playing Skyrim is because I have to keep making new characters since they all perish from technical errors. I don't want this character to perish as well.

Sorry to say but this is your own fault.
Uninstalling mods and loading a related save is allways risky and may kill the savegame or corrupt it. (mostly if the save is in mod related area)
The only way to get your save running is (like you say) to reinstall the mods. Try to track down these mods in steam workshop, maybe they are still in your favorites.

And an advise allways use new saves after applying mods.

You can bump all you like; there are no other ways to solve this problem. You should always make saves prior to trying out new mods so you can revert to them if you decide to remove the mod. Mods shouldn't cause these problems (unless you are in a mod-related area, of course), but some mod authors are not as diligent as they should be. It is your responsibility to research the mod and seek out support from the mod's author should something go wrong. Use of mods without taking any precautions is not recommended.

I'm having this same issue with the Hide Brutal Armor Mod being currently "missing" from the Steam Workshop, this is very annoying.

This is unfortunately one of the risks of modding - certain ones will cause your saves to think they are corrupted if removed. Experienced this myself, lost the save, started again with less mods (and more caution with save-files!)

I guess you could try reinstalling the mods that you may have been using. Trial and error until you find the right one. My concern would be that multiple mods are to blame so you may need to install several and then just start weeding them down. Eventually it'll stop giving that warning message if you have the right ones.

The most important thing is to learn from this mistake (as Tigerseye has had to).
