No main menu - No mods activated

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:38 pm

Simply put, when I start the game, there is simply no main menu, it shows the imperial symbol that is usually in the background, there is no smoke, no music or text.

My graphics drivers are fully updated, I play on lowest graphics settings, with highest draw distance, and I use Windows 7 32bit. This has only started happening after I re-installed the game.

Also, after about a minute, it CTDs.

Tried playing in windowed mode, changed resolution. Once again, no mods are active.

[UPDATE!]
Solved through re-installing the game!

From what I can tell this issue was caused by a mod conflict with Crafting Meltdown, but that isn't your problem because you aren't using mods.

I'm assuming that you tried to verify your game cache?

Had this same thing yesterday when I uninstalled Skyrim from /Program Files/ (Only recently learned that it's a bad idea to install games there, side note, and it may be placebo, but I feel my game runs smoother outside /PF/) and made a fresh install into c:/Games or something.

I didn't specifically do anything to fix it though, I just quit the game and retried, worked the second time. So, I don't know what to tell you, sorry.

Are you able to get to the menu where you can start a new game or load an old save game from before you installed any mods?

Mods with scripts can continue to affect your recent savegame even after deactivating or deleting the mod.

Once again, no mods are active.

"Once again?" Did you mention this before, perhaps in another post?

Just because mods are not active doesn't mean that their files aren't present. Some mods, like Script Dragon and Skyboost, are not "activated." They simply need to be present in the game directory. If there is an incompatibility between these mods and the version of Skyrim you happen to be running, their presence in your Skyrim folder may be enough to cause problems. Try removing all files associated with mods, active or otherwise, from your Skyrim directory.

@Kastagir I said it in the title. No mods at all are active, some are installed, but none are active. The only mods that are installed are from the Workshop, and there are no crafting mods. Ok, I'll try to delete all of my mods.

@BootySweat I can't see the main menu at all, there is no text, just the Imperial Dragon thing.

@Dovah Krosis My Steam games are installed in an area on a different hard-drive.

@SimpsonFly Yes, I tried to clear my game cache.

[UPDATE]

Ok... now it's just not launching, error code 60...

I'll just re-install it...
