So last night after I fast traveled to Falkreth to check the local alchemy merchant. As am walking there I get a courier with a message from a friend, at the same time he is giving his dialog my Xbox controller starts that all too familiar rumble. I see the red dot spin around my compass and as the courier finishes his dialog I see him move out in the open and say something along the lines of "oh my look at that" I move out with arrow drawn and suddelly an huge ancient dragon plummets to the ground...not softly landing wings a flapping..I mean it crashed straight down. No guards around no farmers just me and the courier. The dragon isnt moving. I take a quick arrow shot at it to make sure its dead, nothing happens no damage meter no nothing. I move closer and aborb the soul. I never even touched it.

Was this a named ancient dragon called "Benny"?

Dragons killed on the wing fly around til they find a suitable spot to land or crash, something probably killed it nearby and that was the best place it found to land. I once nailed a dragon that was sleeping, it took off with 0% health, and slowly cralwed it's way through the sky for 5 or 6 minutes, til it suddenly flopped down, spun round and skidded across the floor and almost hit me xD

One time I came upon Alduin raising a dragon. I killed it before it took wing, and it didn't fly. But this was a few patches back, original release-day patch I think.

That should be a random encounter.

Sometimes the courier shows up naked for me.

He's just one of life's big mysteries.
