Brair Hearts

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 7:59 pm

I've finished the "White Phial" quest (one of the things I had to get was a Forsworn/Briar Heart), but Briar Hearts are still "quest items" in my inventory.

They can't be dropped or used in potion making (they don't even show up in the Alchemy Lab). Strangely, though, they can be eaten!

Is there any way they can be made into non-quest items (I have 38 of them so far)?. Another weird thing is that if I eat them my encumbrance doesn't go down.

I'm still using version 1.1 (and I'd rather live with the the problem than have to update to 1.2 or 1.3)

Even though it shows a weight, quest items weigh nothing in your inventory. Any item that is flagged as a quest item has no effect on your encumberence.

Try using the console to remove them.

player.removeitem 1 will also remove an item from your inventory of that ID.

Briarheart item ID: 0003ad61

So try typing:

player.removeiten 0003ad61 38

And they should all be gone.

This is a pretty annoying glitch. You are not the first poster to mention it, which worries me - it might be a standardly broke quest instead of an isolated hiccup.

Also- as a dabbler in alchemy, briar hearts are paralysis ingredients, that would be doubly annoying.
Why do you not want to update to 1.3? I know 1.2 was bust. Don't trust the patches until they are out there for a while?

Wait, so the White Phial quest turns a useful ingredient into a useless quest item? You can't use Briar Hearts for Alchemy when on the quest?

I did that quest and only the one briar heart I collected was a quest item...then it disappeared after I finished the quest, and after the quest was over all briar hearts went back to being normal alchemy ingredients...I think this is one of those problems that randomly affects different people.

Why does it bother you? They don't weigh anything...

This happened to me too. IIRC, I just ate them all, after which all new briarhearts I collected returned to normal.

[edit] I'm guessing the bug occurs when you have more than one in your inventory when you finish the quest. So, try removing them all from your inventory.

If he's like me, he has a bit of inventory OCD. I hate having stuff I don't want/need but can't get rid of. I was stuck having to keep Red Eagle's Fury for almost my entire first playthrough because the quest to get rid of it was apparently broken.

I got an Oblivion mod to remove the quest item tag and loved it. I cut my teeth on Morrowind dammit, I know not to lose stuff that looks important!

LOL, I dont have inventory OCD. I just want to be able to use Briarhearts in the Alchemy Lab. Haven't tried eating them all, so will try that.

Then I'll add one using console, to see if it's still a quest item

That's worked (thanks to ISU, don't know why it didn't think of that!)

Ate them all, then added them back via console (with a save inbetween) and they're no longer quest items. Yay!

Picture someone sitting down and munching on 38 spiky pinecones...it's pretty funny to imagine.

LOL, lucky I had some Nord Mead to wash them down with. Still waiting for the paralysis to wear off tho' (but too drunk to care)
