Unplayable fps on a good computer

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 3:04 pm

Ok first of all, i admit, i pirated the game to try it out and see how it was. I was pleasantly surprised and bought it today. Now with that out of the way, when i tried the pirated version i had a stable 45-60fps (measured with fraps) with mods enhancing the graphical quality of the game.

Now today after i bought the game i downloaded the exact same mods and started it. First the loadingscreen was terribly slow, and when i finally entered the game it was playing in 5fps and appeared to be locked there. I tried to troubleshoot by disabling all the mods without any result, still 5fps. I then proceeded to lower the graphicsettings to absolut minimum and WOW my fps doubled, i got 10fps. Once again it appeared to be locked to 10fps.

Something is terribly wrong, but i dont know what. My computer should not have, and hasnt had any problems playing this game at all.

Intel i5 2500k, 8gb ram, GTX 570, directx 11.

Please help

first of all, its karma kicking you in the nuts for pirating the game. Second, if your pirated version worked better, why not just use it?

It sounds like something could be wrong with either the performance of your hardware or perhaps a windows issue, not sure what though. You should be pulling way higher FPS than that. When you installed the legit copy, did you make sure all the files and folders from the pirated version were gone? If not, I would uninstall and then reinstall skyrim and see what happens from there.

Well i dont want to play pirated games. I prefer to buy them, support the developers and enjoy the benefits of auto-update etcetcetc. I have also deleted the pirated version because i never thought that this problem would occur.

I take it you have updated everything? How does the game run with all your mods disabled?

Well since its from steam it should be autoupdated, right?

No difference between mods enabled and disabled. The only way i could notice a difference was going from High to Low and then it was from 5fps to 10.

What about background apps? You're not converting video files in your spare time or something?

Also, what nvidia drivers are you using? That could have an impact as well.

I would revert back to 296.10 and see if anything changes in terms of FPS. I have heard some people say they lost performance with those drivers but same have gained. Just depends on your setup.

 why on earth would you come on a devs forum and tell them you pirated the game, then ask for help LOL,

Congrats on buying it though, despite its flaws it's worthy of every penny.

THANK YOU! I reinstalled 296.10 and tried playing, got 25-30fps. Then i restarted my computer and now in vanilla mode im back to 60fps stable. Will report back after trying with mods

As "proof" that i know that my computer can play the game. And i dont think that a developer is gonna be mad about someone who thought their product was so good he proceeds to buy it. Well it seems that its working now, thank you guys.

Ok everything seems to be working perfectly! Im now playing with 15 steam-mods and 20 nexusmods. The only thing that was a problem was the "enhanced nightsky" which made my fps plummet to 30 at night but after disabling that im back to stable 60.

Thank you guys again
