I left Helgen and went right to Windhelm. My character skirted through the mountains around Whiterun and met no one from there (same with Riverwood)

I was planning to join the Civil War and secure Hjerim first (I love a base at the beginning and Hjerim is my favorite house)

If I do this - will I still get the Bleak Falls Barrow and Dragon Quests even if Jarl Jargruuf (or whatever the Imperial Jarl of Whiterun is) is deposed?

Try and find out? I think that might be your only answer since most people dont do that..

The quest adapt around your actions? Hoho, no.

It forces you to complete those quests before the Siege of Whiterun.

You know that for a fact? So if I start the Civil War Quests I will have to do the Barrow/Dragon before the siege?

I don't mind that... just don't want to completely fubar the MQ line.

During the Civil War quest Ulfric will have your deliver a challenge to Jarl of white run, the game won't let you compete this without first having reported to the Jarl on the main quest.

Yeah, it svcks, I was hoping to complete the Stormcloak line before i discovered that I was dragonborn, but no such luck.
