Question about Stormcloaks and Imperials...... : V

So I'm at the point where I can take an oath to join the Stormcloaks.

Before I do, I was wondering if someone could give me a brief history on what side is doing what.

I'll say what I think is happening that way if I'm right whoever knows can just say "You're right".

The Stormcloaks are basically a rebel force trying to put Skyrim back to it's glory, but not using harsh means like the Imperials. Imperials basically use law and such and want Skyrim to join *someone I forget who* as part of a large force.

Please don't say any perks or spoilers about either faction. I just need to know whats going on in order to choose. I kinda got lost somewhere along the lines when I was getting excited to play the game.

I hate to say this but there are dozens of topics about this where all the answers await you.
There are that many grey areas fro either side that it will take ages to explain it here when you can find it yourself on these very forums relatively easily.

The Thalmor have taken over the Empire and are using the Legion as their puppets to take over Skyrim during their conquest of Tamriel trying to assess their place as the master race of Nirn. At the same time they have banned the worship of Talos which the Nords are very much against while also being against having their homeland taken over by the Empire and their Altmeri overlords. To combat this we have Ulfric Stormcloak who is fighting them back however he's not all good either as he has extremist views of other races and is generally a big racist with a lot of power who would like nothing more than to drive everyone away from Skyrim who is not a Nord, not only the Empire and the Thalmor but all other races too, trying to break Skyrim away from the Empire which would have been a very bad decision 200 years back when the Empire was still respectable.

So basically they are both evil in their own way. I'm not all that versed in this however so someone can probably explain it better than I do but this is how I'm getting it so far.

Both sides have their evils. Join the Stormcloaks if you believe that the Empire is giving more and more ground to the Thalmor, and is slowly squeezing the life out of Skyrim as a result.
