Playing Skyrim with 360 Controller

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:02 pm

So I've started a new playthrough and thought I'd try the game out with the controller this time. Apart from my inability to aim a bow with the joystick (Im practicing) I've gotta say its actually pretty damn good. What has shocked is that it has it has negated much of the lag I used to get with the mouse, which was REALLY annoying. I seem to be able to run things with higher resolution and ENB much smoother. Perhaps there were issues with my mouse but it is noticeable. I can map dual wield parrying to the left joystick (yay!). And I can walk with varying degrees of speed. Ive always been staunchly anti-controller with these types of games but i must say I'm coming around, surprisingly.

The only thing I cant seem to do is alter the degree of zoom in 3rd person view. Sure I can switch between 1st and 3rd but the level of zoom seems not possible with a controller? PS. Might try mapping toggle run on/off with Xpadder - anyone done that? Should be able to map caps lock to something(?)

Is it Right Click to switch to third person? If so, you need to hold it down, and I think use the left stick to zoom in and out.

You can definitely do it, played a bit with my controller before.

Cool, thanks! Yes its right click to switch. I tried holding right click but didnt think to move the left joystick at the same time. Makes perfect sense in hindsight. Will give it a shot.

Controller is good for Skyrim, get your feet up and do some laid back exploring. ;)

Mouse + Keyboard for anything that requires a fast aim EG: UT And COD.
But the 360 controller is ideal for Skyrim on the PC, no way I would use mouse + keyboard.

Controller is the way to go. Check out http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12964 mod as well. Highly recommended to add more hotkeys to your controller.

Much more relaxing that way, the only time I go for the mouse and keyboard anymore is if a game features firearms, or an rts.

I have that same mod. I use the "My Config" version. It is an absolute, IMO. 8 hotkeys in lieu of 2 and you get quick save added. Plus others.
