[code][code]So im up to the bit where u need to talk to the guy in the mages college, but can't, he has a quest marker above him but no dialogue to help me. I have by chance come across the discerning the transmudane quest from septimus sigmus already. If i do his quest will i be able to progress in the main story? Thanks

Septimus Sigmus should give you a cube to take to the dwarven ruin where the Elder Scroll is at. He ask you to copy the scroll on the cube, upon returning that cube to him you than start a daedra lord quest.

Also thats the quest you need to do to get the Elder Scroll so go do it lol

Ok thank you very much, i thought this would be the case but was just hoping the game would let me advance in the main story and not stop me because i accidently missed a step.

If you have already talked to Septimus, the Arcanaeum is pretty useless, since he only points you to Septimus. You should be good.
