Issue with dual wield that should be easy to fix for the dev

Scenario 1: using two daggers of the same type and basic quality (works as intended)

You have two iron daggers that stack in your inventory. You favorite them and then assing the number 1 to them in the favorites menu. You press 1 and your char equips an iron dagger. You press 1 again and your char equips a second iron dagger. Works great.

Scenario 2: using two daggers of the same type but different quality (works as intended)

You now find an iron ingot and improve one of the daggers to a fine iron dagger. The two daggers no longer stack and the fav hotkey now only works on one of them. You need to favourite both items and use two numbers as hotkeys. Expected behaviour.

Scenario 3: using two daggers of the same type and same improved quality (broken)

You find another iron ingot and improve the other dagger. Now you have two iron daggers of the fine quality that stack in your inventory. You favourite them and the stack ends up in the favourites menu. You assign the number 1 as the hotkey. Press 1 and your char equips one iron dagger (fine). Press 1 again and you now unequip the dagger instead of equiping a second. Not only that but the second press clears the hotkey so pressing 1 for the third time no longer has any effect and needs to be set again in the fav menu.

This should be easy to fix, since improved items of the same quality already have the same behaviour as items of basic quality in the inventory, it only needs to work the same in the favorites menu as well. I'm sure the devs can fix this on a coffee break

Thanks for the patches released so far.

This has been reported numerous times and is on the Unofficial Buglist. It likely has something to do with keywords and how the UI calls them. I doubt it is such an easy fix or else it would have been fixed already or at the very least an attempt at fixing it would have been made by BGS. I'm hopeful that Bethesda will fix this along with many other issues with the UI, but I would also expect that when papyrus functions are added to SKSE that we'll see SKSE plugins that address this issue.

anyone have any suggestions for dealing with this? I'm having the same problem and it's getting to the point where I'm about to scrap my dual weild character entirely due to how annoying this is becoming. This seems like a basic problem that should have been fixed by Bethesda during beta testing.

If one of the modders out there can find a way to fix this, I'd greatly appreciate it!

i know this isn't what you will want to hear but I gave up, sword in the main hand and dagger offhand or two different daggers, combined with not being able to hotkey the offhand weapon.

i hate it but i have no choice.

The http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3865 mod works for hotkeying a pair of weapons. It requires Script Dragon. When I used it, however, the hotkey would stop working as soon as I picked up another variant of one of the weapons in the set. For example, if I hotkeyed Dawnbreaker and a Dwarven Dagger, it would work fine until I picked up another Dwarven Dagger, after which the hotkey would no longer function, presumably because it couldn't determine which "dwarven dagger" should be selected. This is likely due to the fact that this mod uses weapon keywords as hooks and a generic dwarven dagger and an enchanted (even renamed) dwarven dagger still share the same keyword.

At present, I just use the favorites menu (with the Expanded Favorites Menu mod) if for some reason I want to dual-wield.

I don't even think #'s 1 and 2 in your list actually work. If you switch to another left hand item you lose the weapon set association. For example, you can switch back and forth between dual weapons and a bow. No problem. Now press a spell hotkey. The spell goes in the left hand and the right hand weapon remains but there is no way to regain that left hand weapon with a hot key. A weapon hot key always places the weapon in your right hand. That's the problem here.
