A tale of two systems

I keep putting off playing Skyrim because so many people seems to be having problems with it.

I currently have win xp with Dx 9.0c.
MY hardware is an i5-2500k Processor, 4 mbs of ram, A sound laster x-fi card
a 7,200brpm hard drive, and an ATI 6850 video card with 1 gb og ram.

I have all I need to upgrade to win7 64 bit and increase my memory up to 32gbs. And to add a solid state drive if that would make a diffence.
And to get a 2gb video card, the ati 7850.

I really like xp more than 7 but do you think that the increase in speed and stability would make the upgrade worth it. They parts are just sitting in my closet and I am afraid to install them.

And SKyrim is a 32 bit program so I wonder if the 32gbs of ram might evn make things worse.
What do you think?
Is there a way to get the best of both worlds. Does the ssd really make a difference.

I go through this with every Bethesda game.

Many thanks for any thoughts.
