Game has died - cannot launch

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 7:16 pm

My mouse stopped working in game last night. It would work in menus, but in game I could only strafe around, clicking or moving mouse did nothing.

I thought it might be a corrupt save but I reloaded much earlier save and still the same problem.

Quit out and restarted my machine and now the game will not run. I launch Steam, click on 'play' after loading skyrim launcher, and nothing happens. No error message - nothing.

Anyone got any ideas?

Go on the game's 'properties' in your steam library, click 'local content' and 'verify integrity of game cache'. If something has been corrupted in the game files that will usually fix it.

Thanks, didn't think to try that - not used to Steam...

One question - will doing this overwrite any mods? And by mods I just mean 'loose' textures etc.

Turns out Steam had deleted my modified EXE...

So Steam decided to delete my (now unmodified) exe again and refused to launch game after update.

I've verified local game files again which allows me to launch the game.

However, I'm getting CTD every 10 minutes, usually when going through a door, and at other random intervals.

Is there anyway to 'rollback' to a previous version without upsetting steam?
