GPU for new DIY PC (Skyrim)

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:34 am

SO I'm going to buy this rig after some saving, I need to know a good GPU to put into it?

Here is the PC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.864947 plain and simple it comes with everything I just have to assemble it and select a GPU to run Skyrim on at least high or ultra with Graphic enhancing mods maybe.

Also I have W7 Ultimate 64 Bit and 32 Bit to put on my new PC.

That doesn't answer his Q sufficiently. And if he used the minimum specs for high detail setting, he wouldn't be able to run most of today's other new games.
CATHARTiCDREAM I see you have selected a basic budget model PC. Therefore I have to assume you are also wanting to keep your gfx card(s) within a budget too, not to mention the high end cards (whether or not in Xfire or SLI) would have much of their speed wasted by a CPU (and system memory?) bottleneck. Since you are going AMD, I will just suggest the AMD gfx card for this, and I am not very acquainted with Nvidia cards anyway.

Cheap:

~$70 + ship

Midrange budget card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127664
~$140 except right now $120 W/rebate!

A tiny bit better:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102968
~$150 except right now $140 W/rebate!

Best:

~$270 except right now $260 W/rebate!
This card would probably also be good for use after a computer upgrade in a couple of years, whereas the others will be too obsolete. I have a high-end system, and my gfx uses cards just slightly better than this one, albeit two of them in Xfire, so they are a little more than twice as fast (and with more memory which gives the ability of higher resolutions and/or more monitors).

The bottom three cards do put out a considerable amount of heat, and most of it goes into your case as opposed to out the rear vent(s). But since you are only using one card, IDK if more fans are required. You would have to run stress tests and watch the temperatures to find out. Or you could just add that optional 80mm case fan and call it good. If you do, look for one with a higher CFM value than the others.
