Intro sequence bug help! Spoiler.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 9:49 pm

Still put a spoiler tag but don't think it is needed at this point.

I haven't played the game for a while, when I came back the mods I had pretty much stopped the game from working so I did a clean up and redownloaded the game.

Now when I start a new game I get stuck at the stage where the first guy gets his head cut off. Specifically, when the hero is called to step forward, the character keeps moving (even during the customizing menus). Afterwards, the character autowalks to the headsmen block while the General address the Stormcloak leader. The mystic start to chant a prayer but is order to stop. At that point my game stops, it continues to run, but everyone stands around and does nothing. This continues forever and pretty much makes the game unplayable.

Help?

Thanks in advance.

Does this occur on every new game or just a single new game?

Everytime I try to start a new game it happens, regardless of what customization options I choose...:(

Ok, when you say you did a "clean up" did you delete all traces completely? No Data folder remaining, no INI files left in the (My )Documents/(My )Games/Skyrim folder and so forth?

Just wanting to figure out what it isn't at this point. :)

Yes, I deleted my entire skyrim folder after uninstalling. I will run a integrity check on the files I suppose, maybe it didn't install correctly :(

Possible.

The INI files aren't in the Skyrim directory, did you make sure to wipe them out as well?

Shouldn't have much bearing here, but I just want to make sure things really were a clean slate. Never can tell, you know.

Are you referring to the ones in my document? I didn't delete those! I actually had one previously that was set to read-only, let me get rid of those.

If you want, back them up somewhere first. But, yeah, wipe 'em completely.

For clean installations, I always feel it's best to start clean and go from there. Makes tracking down trouble spots much simpler. :)

Didn't fix it. I let it regenerate new INI files, but the bug is still there. Same with integrity check, it said all files are correct. :(

I should add the game is playable. I loaded old save files and everything runs okay. It is just that the new game option is bugged because I can't progress past the intro. The game sequence halts there. Is there any fix to let me skip that part?

Edit: Someone is suggesting for me to download a save file that starts right after the introduction. I guess that would be a work around but I would still prefer to fix this :(

Edit2: I ended up deciding to go with the save file. It worked perfectly.
