Take a follower who compliments your style of play. So if you are a mage, take a warrior. If u are a warrior take an archer or a mage etc etc. As for good warrior companions or hirelings I would recommend: Jenassa in Whiterun, Stenvar in Windhelm, Farkas/Vilkas in Whiterun & Vorstag in Markarth. Also try Benor in Morthal or Borgakh in Mor Khazgur. P.S. If u want the best "warrior follower" in the game try to summon the Dremora Lord...just sit back, relax and let him take out everything in sight!!!

Mjoll The Lioness in Riften. She's an essential companion, so she can never be killed. Don't pickpocket or murder people around her, though. Cause she'll kill you. :P

@subzero22: try the college of Winterhold. But remember that for high level spells to be available you need to have a sufficient level in Conjuration magic.

They are all weak after 10 levels, unless you play on the pc. Otherwise, i really like Jordis. She knows how to use a shield and live more cause of it. Especially with magic resist gear.

In the College of Winterhold...you must also be an expert in conjuration (lvl 75 or higher) before the spell becomes available in the vendors inventory...can't remember the vendor's name, sorry : (
Even on Master difficulty this guy will kick some serious ass...Dragons included! I once used Dragonrend to force a dragon to land and the Dremora Lord killed it before it flew off !!!!!!!

I am a Khajit Warrior, level 35, Dual Wield Daedric War Axes
I like to take along Aela the Huntress, good with a bow, can equip good heavy armor. This is a huge plus for me cause I just give her what I was using when I get better. I would like a mage, maybe an ice mage but I have not met a mage who I could take on yet.

Lydia is an ok choice, much like Aela in a lot of ways. She is decent with a Bow, can equip your hand me down armor, then has a sword and shield for up close fighting.

I am not that far yet so I hope this was helpful.

I had Lydia following me around since she was available. I heard she doesn't level, but when she's armoured and kitted up she does an ok job. Slightly to prone to running headlong into a battle when I am sneaking with my bow, many an arrow up her backside.

I married Mjoll, but thinking she may be good to get out on the battlefield, still to kill Aerin, no opportunity as yet.

Maybe he'll come with us to some dungeons and meet his demise there.

The Dremora Lord is a perfect companion, and when you summon 2 at once, is pretty unstoppable. Plus they're not around constantly so you can sneak, etc. after they despawn.
