Daedric Quests?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:04 am

What's with all the hidden starts for Daedric Quests? I've started 4 Daedric quests, but I'm playing a nice guy and don't want anything to do with any Daedric Princes, yet, I keep starting their quests. Whether it's helping a begger, finding a lost dog, etc. there is no way I could know that starts a Daedric quests. I would much rather these quests start the old fashioned way where I find the shrine and ask for a quests as opposed to them being dumped on me.

Anyone else getting unwanted Daedric Quests?

Don't do them then?

Plus the Daedric Princes aren't all "bad", the majority are all shades of grey.

Heck, Azura and Meridia are pretty benevolent.

I like the variety, unlike Oblivion where you just go to each shrine.

Some Daedra quests you do have an option to help the Daedra or not, it boils down to a morale choice.

No. What did you expect the cannibal lady to do with the guy that you brought to her great hall-esque lair?

This. Did you honestly think the woman who told you she thinks you're a cannibal and pretty much states she's one would do anything else to the priest? Sometimes the people on these boards make me go :shakehead:

Well one must admit..Having to kill a priest.. and then take the first bite..., that's good right.. yes those Daedric Princes really can be deceptive.. ;)
(on my first play-through.. always benevolent.. hero type.. I immediately killed her..)

However I do think LeBurns has a point.
In some quests there should be an alternative.. Some have alternatives in which you can sort of do the right thing.. others will just stay in your journal because (playing good) do not have a good ending option.. (Boethia springs to mind)

I think the only easy one to find (and complete) is Meridia's quest. Walk up to her shrine, she talks to you, and 'poof', quest added.
I have yet to find any other daedric quest (let alone shrine) in the game.

Azura's is actually even more straightforward in this. The shrine's just south(ish) from Winterhold. Same with Peryite and Boethia. Dagon has a shrine, but the quest won't start until a courier gives you a letter to visit a museum in Dawnstar at level 20.

Dibella is easy to find go to her temple in Markarth. you can kill the girl and take her key or just pick the lock.

Mara is easy to find go to her temple in Riften.

most daedra are very grey and you can do what you want with their gifts.

Dibella and Mara are Aedra, not Deadra. But, Kynareth also has a quest to revive the dying tree in Whiterun.

Kinda missing the OP's point here.
It's not a simply case of not doing it, most of the quests are hidden under giuses of other ones, help a touched man find his master and your in someones head, help a guy clear out a haunted house and you have to kill him, help get rid of something stealing bodies and your suddenly someone who craves flesh. Hit level 30 people start coming to kill you for a challenge. Help someone get rid of a ring and you become a "monster". Help a scholar with a dwarven mystery to read an elder scroll and you into helping one of the most powerful daedric princes. Get drunk one night and your into another daedric princes game.

You do stuff in the world and you'll end up starting one of these, at least in OB if you wanted to be involved with daedric worship you had to choose to find the shrine and make an offering before hand, and rarely would they prevent you from helping someone in need though not doing them, as a good guy to not get involved in it you have to ignore haunted houses and all sorts to not end up doing something bad.

It's kinda nice to have a mix, I guess just going to 13 shrines and making an offering before they'll talk to you, to ask you to go do something not tied up with anything else would be boring again. It's nice that most of them will talk to you without an offering cause they are aware of your power and you have something to offer them but with the lack of options once they start in dealing with them in a meaningful way just detracts from that. It's ignore the evils they cause or go on a killing spree making an already quiet world quieter. plus although the starts are different they nearly all end with a bloodbath meaning you need to kill someone to pacify them, even the gift of one needs you to kill more just to get it working well. Found ob's more unique in many ways. Can't beat a naked dinner party or raining cheese with hunting items and killing someone 13 times.

The daedric shrine quests are quite badly done imo. Not the ideas but the way the quests are implemented. The worst is the Mephala one for a good character, knowing something is wrong but not being able to tell the relevant npc who specifically asked you to look into it. This is sitting in your journal as a constant reminder of your inability to simply tell an npc about a bad situation. The quest is acquired accidentally which makes it worse.

I like the way the quests are received, it adds a lot more variety and sows shows how the Daedra will con good people into doing bad things. The problem is three lack of flexibility in npc interactions, you should be given the opportunity to make a moral choice, instead of simply ignoring a started quest.

if u going lorewise the daedra worship has gone underground so to speak.SPOILER the vigilants of stendarr go around destroying their shrines so now they trick people into helping them .
but as rping yeah its a little irritating if u ar trying to be good but if u cancel dialog (idk what system your' on im ps3 its circle ) u wont be given quest if u do it be4 last sentence

Dang I started another one last night. Kept running past this guy that was asking about a house, said he was hunting Daedra or something. I said (truthfully) that I don't know anything about the house and moved on. Well the guy kept stopping me everytime I went by (he starts the dialog). I kept saying no. But then the STUPID PC interface decided that I meant to say I'd help and before I know it I'm following the guy into the dang house. Well low and behold it's a dang Daedric Quest start again. I just reloaded prior to entering the house. I guess the guy will stay in there forever by himself.

This is like the fouth Daedric quest that I've unintentially started. What's with these tricky bastards anyway. If I had the option to kill them, that might make it worth it.

Granted the asking at a shrine is a little boring and this is an interesting way to get them started. I just wish there was a little clue up front on some of these of what you are getting into. You are literally tricked into starting most these things.

Well anyway, I gotta go check out this museum or whatever in some town. Some guy gave me a flier. Maybe I can hunt some artifacts for them like in Morrowind's Tribunal's museum...

I personally LOVE the Daedra quests, how something so mundane could get you in so much trouble. " A Night to Remember " for example, who would thought getting into a drinking contest could get you in such trouble?

Don't get so wound up on oh my character is good, he would never do this. It is a video game, most likely those of you complaining are probally Leader of the Companions, Guild Master of the Thieves Guild, Archmage of the College of Winterhold. How realistic is that? Come on guys just have fun and let the debauchery begin!

I like how they are implemented. I think the Daedric Princes are indeed going to trick adventurers into doing thier bidding. I was quite surprised when I found Sheogorath hiding out in some insane guys dreams and azura and meridia are not that bad either. they are 'gods' after all and are used to having mortals serve them. what I don't like is the lack of a "flip off the daedric prince and tell him he can take his human sacrifice and shove it" option. this is actually an interesting story.

so I got both Boethia's and Molag Bals quests at roughly the same time. Molag Bal wanted me to find a priest of Boethia, force him to submit to Molag Bal and kill him. at first I was like, whatever, I don't murder people, so I ignore the quest. I was also a little irked that Molag Bal caused the city gaurd I was with to go insane and start attacking me. I don't like being forced to kill the innocent, even in self defense. so I was not happy with Molag Bal.

then I find Boethia's cult and I learn they want me to sacrifice a human to get into the cult. I say no way and start killing them (they are a bunch of murderers so I feel justfied! I knew Boethia would not like it, but, I don't like Boethia either. I thought this would remove the quest from my journal since I killed the NPC responsible for giving it to me and angered the prince. so I killed all the cult members and Boethia shows up and says he's pissed, but, says that I can regain favor by sacrificing a human to him....WHAT?! I just killed your entire cult for human sacrifice! so the only way to get rid of this quest from my journal is to commit human sacrifice? Where's my option to "just say NO!"

so, I said, "fine, Ill sacrifice one of your priests to Molag Bal, how do you like that!?"

so I went back to Molag Bal, forced Boethia's priest to submit and change allegience then I killed him! got a nice mace for my troubles too!
