I found one and after looking him up apparently all four are scattered around and they have personally identifying jewelry on them. Anyways, has anyone found anything relating to these people aside from Gestor mentioning they're missing?

I keep meaning to post about this but I keep forgetting. I found where they are, what happened to them, and I have all 4 rings. I need to go back down there and see what the rings do. I don't know how to put a spoiler tag or I would post more.

Ah thanks. I have been trying not to google this because I want to experiment on my own.

In the Dark Midden you find a room with a metal hand, a journal and human remains. The individual fingers on the hand can be 'activated'. The journal hints that the missing apprentices were using the hand when they are killed. There is a key on the table which opens a chest in the Arcaneum(sp), the chest contains the 4 rings. I am assuming using different rings on different fingers will activate various effects.

When all four rings are put on the hand, a dremora is summoned. Apparently he was a pirate in his day(he even wrote a book about it). You can set him free and he'll give you a treasure map, or you can defeat him and get some Redguard clothes and a curved sword. Curved. Sword.

The OP isn't talking about *those* apprentices, he's talking about the ones phinis gestor mentions who left the college and never returned. Ilas-Tei is one of them I know, I found him somewhere not far from the college, dead, and he had his "Ilas-Tei's Ring" on him. But I could never find the other three, and I have no idea if they have any significance to anything...
