Multiplayer Connection Test Error
There have been issues reported from users on certain ISPs where the Connection Test fails.
What is causing this?
When players enter the Multiplayer menu for the first time, we perform a standard Xbox connection test to determine how many players a person can host. This was done to preserve, as much as possible, the online experience, so players were not hosting games beyond their capabilities. It seems as though certain ISPs (Virgin has been the widely reported one) either has a particularly high ping when conducting this test, or it is somehow blocking/hindering this connection check. This is resulting in the incorrect result of the test failing. Because this test is either being hindered or blocked by the ISP, it reports back that you are having issues with your Connection and determines that you are not able to play in Multiplayer games. Or in some cases, the test does not return an error but the player is limited to hosting 2 player games. At the same time, many players on the same ISPs are not having issues at all. And some players who are having the issue, have also been able to connect at some point. This could be certain locations of the ISP that are causing issues as well.
How are we addressing this?
We are working with both Microsoft and these ISPs to see if they can improve what is being blocked or hindered when the Connection Test is performed.
We are also addressing this with a code fix for a title update. The exact solution is to be determined. We are trying to address this as quickly as possible, however, due to Microsoft holiday closures, this will be in the new year.
What can I try in the meantime?
If possible, try playing at different times of the day. There’s a chance that your ISP will run the test correctly when there is less traffic. Some players have had success by repeating the test several times.
If you were able to successfully complete the test, but the game says you can only Host 2 player games (and you feel your connection should allow you to host more) try backing out and Hosting a System Link game, set the number of players to something you think you can handle, then re-Host the Player or Ranked match. The number should remain from System Link.
“I Can Win” Achievement Not Unlocking
The Achievement is not triggering when players achieve 5 wins in a Ranked Match. This appears to be due to malfunction when Hosting.
How are we addressing this?
This issue will be fixed in an update.
What can I try in the meantime?
The simple solution is to join Ranked matches. This should trigger the Achievement.
