I am sick to death of crashing.

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:25 am

So how do I make it stop?

Symptoms: Walking outside in an exterior cell, after 5 - 10 minutes the frame rate lowers, then a few seconds after that the game either freezes and shuts down to desktop.

I never crash in an interior cell. I can play for hours in a dungeon without any slow downs, freezes, or crashes.

This has been happening since the game was first released in November.

The 4gig patch removed this crash allmost entirely, but since Bethesda removed the functionality of that patch the crashes began again.

Uninstall any and all mods and third-party add-ons and start a new game. If the problem goes away, please take it to the mods board: http://www.gamesas.com/forum/183-skyrim-mods/

Game is totally unplayable without mods. Seriously a PC player wouldnt even consider that.

This problem has occured since November, before I even had any mods.

Not the point at all. The modders are responsible for their mods. This board is not looked at much. The mods board is the best option for mod issues.

Have you reinstalled the game ever since November?

Well I had crashing issues after patches(every time one was released)...doing a full uninstall and reinstall solved the issue every single time. Back up your saves and uninstall and remove all other remnants of Skyrim and mods from your system. Clean your reg of Skyrim related stuff and then install again. Add your mods one at a time...it is a daunting process but better than random crashing. I run a stable game with a Ultra + config no crashes.

There have been several patches for stability since November, so a current vanilla game is not likely to be giving a stable system crashing problems.

Game runs perfectly and never crashes or slows down when I am in an interior cell. It only happens when im outside, mostly near cities and very frequently happens outsdie solitude.

its because of mods, and I bet I know which ones. but first let me tell you how I found it. I disabled all my mods. Then I slowly built the list back up. what you are experiencing is most likely an incompatibility between the QUEST mods, and W.A.T.E.R. The advice you were given would have gotten you this answer faster, and as it is not a vanilla skyrim issue it should have been posted in the mod forum.

There's no point posting on a board that you are having trouble with crashes if you're going to be so intransigent about accepting advice.
Regardless of whether or not you're kept up to date with Steam or indeed whatever your attitude is to Vanilla Skyrim there's pretty much a specific set of steps that you need to follow if you have issues of this nature, if you're not willing to follow them then you're not going to achieve a resolution...
1. Have you disabled all of your mods and done a completely clean save?
2. Have you cleared any and all caches?
3. have you done a complete and full reinstall - (preferably using ccleaner or something of that nature as well)?
4. Is your graphics card overclocked?
5. Is your ini file/game setup optimised for the mods you are using/PC you are playing the game on?
6. Have you checked you mod load order for conflicts?
If the answer to any of the above is "No I haven't checked" or "I don't know" then maybe you should check first and then post in the appropriate forum...?

Dont go overboard, I never said I wouldnt follow your advice. Just right now I'm in the middle of modding and I'll consider taking more drastic measures after the weekend.

Holy jesus dude quite a few of those mods conflict, I'd say completely reinstall Skyrim and start fresh and see if it still happens. If so then we can start working on other things to try and get your Skyrim to work.

Ohh and the EXE is still 4GB enabled for those wondering: http://i49.tinypic.com/2uf8vap.jpg

What we need is a 64-bit .exe

What do you think a 64-bit exe is gonna fix? Allow more usage for RAM?

Skyrim isn't anywhere near excedding 4GB Limit, and if it is you've got a big problem on your hands lol.

Game crashes when walking in wilderness for 5-10 minutes. I can extend this by reducing the object or clutter distance. I allmost never had a problem with the unofficial 4gig patch. With Ugrids set to 7 and texture mods to improve those horribly compressed textures, mine uses well over 2 gigs, (though im not getting purple objects or terrain since Beth enabled 4 gig). Its screaming memory leak to me.

Daemon, Which of those mods conflict?

I've had the exact same problem, freeze/crash in outside only. however I think it only started after 1.5. my mod list shares a few of yours.. can I ask you try disabling the following mods one by one and test:

SOS (unlikely I know but who knows)
WIS
WATER

I've noticed the WET part of WATER kills my frame rate. So I turn that bit off.

You're running out of Vram. Disable HD texture pack and watch it play perfectly.
About the 64 bit .exe, the game basically uses that since 1.3 patch; the box for allowing more usage of RAM is checked. So that's out of the question, I have no clue why everyone is complaining about that. Don't believe me? Check it yourself with CFF Explorer.
