Saved Games - The Average Size

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:38 pm

Hey guys,

I've been wondering something these days. What's the size of your saved games?
My last char got broken because of a corrupt save file, but no exactly because of one mod (or maybe not because of any mod at all), then I had to start a new one.
Either way, I don't know if that can be a problem, but I can see that my save files are slowly getting bigger.
Right now I'm lvl 23 and my saved game is 6.662KB. I know of lvl 25 chars with less than 5mb save files, and been wondering (even considering that the lvl isn't the accurate way to compare these things) if there's a pattern to the size or if it just gets bigger and bigger through time. Or if there's a problem here with my saved games.

My save games hit 10MB at around 225 hours, and have now topped out at 13.5MB (575 hours, Level 68).
Same with my first playthrough (13.2MB, 400 hours, Level 56).

Edit:
Jaysus, I'm showing almost 1000 hours (on Steam)...
Pretty scary, eh?

Wow, that's a huge file. But maybe that's normal, since your char is lvl 68.
Have you ever experienced crashes that you suspect that be related to that?
It's just an annoying thought that I have whenever my game crashes out of nowhere.

8.5mb @ 112 hours, level 40 with the original character I created in November. (14 assorted mods and all of Skyrim's updates since) Your 6mb at level 23 isn't too shabby and is pretty much "on par" with what I've experienced so far. I experienced only 1 crash since my original install, which wound up being a driver issue. I have heard so much about CTD's and random crashes early on that I wound up building a "Skyrim-only" PC and retired my not-very-old PC to server duty.

The thing is that my pc is really good enough for Skyrim, so the ctds shouldn't be a problem due to that. Geforce gtx 560, 8gb ram, core i7 3.4ghz, etc. But so far I've lost count of crashes, even most of them being caused by mods. I think the problem msy be my win 7 64 bits, but don't know. I've managed to get one char to lvl 43, with very little ctds, but grown tired of him and created anothr, but since then some strange things been ocurring.
My last char couldn't get near FalKreath and the game crashed, no errror messages, nothing. He was near lvl 30 I think. My current char been ok 'til I ran into some mysterious ctd that I could't enter certain cell in that dwemer dungeon where you get the Elder Scroll in the main quest. But I had actually already entered that cell before activating the quest, and no trouble with ctd, but after activatig this part of the main quest I just couldn't enter the cell. Sorry, can't remember the name of the dungeon. I've easily managed to get another way in, but now I'm worried that I may get in some other part of the game with a similar or worst issue thstI won't be able to solve.
The size of the save file is just a blind shot in the dark, my problems may not be related to that ar all, but still I wonder about that. You guys saying that mine isn't that big makes me feel a little better.
