Nirnroots: Is there a quest for them like there was in Obliv

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:46 am

Please just answer yes or no :) I refrained from searching the wiki or googling because IF there is a quest, I don't want to know any details about it :)

I just want to know if there's a quest because ever since starting Skyrim I've been obsessively collecting each and every Nirnroot I encounter, same as I used to do in Oblivion.

There is a quest where a lady wants 20 nirnroots. I hoard them even though I found out they respawn :/

Yes. You are asked to collect a variety of plants and ingredients in various quests. These include fire salts, nirnroot, deathbell, nightshade, jazbay graqes and crimson nirnroot. There may be others but these are the ones I remember right now.

You should also collect them to prevent the strange hyperglowing nirnroot bug. (Unless you want to stand around mini-suns or be typing disable forever)

This. Talk to Ingun Black-Briar in Riften.

And especially this. Those mini suns will eventually bloat and corrupt saves, just like the non-despawning ash piles have done since FO3 (and why has that still not been fixed?!)

Collect this quests I have found, and the items associated:

Collect Crimson Nirnroot (30) for a lady in the woods, when you turn them in to her, she will ask for 20 Jazbay graqes. Also, a lady in Riften will ask for regular Nirnroot, but the lady that wants the crimson nirnroot/jazbay graqes grows a dozen of them on her farm, so do the crimson nirnroot quest first.

Also random encounters will generate different quests. I have been asked for frost salts, fire salts, and nightshade by seemingly random travelers.

Jazbay are hard to find in quantities. I suggest hoarding them as you play through so you have them whent he time comes. Crimson Nirnroot are ONLY in Blackreach, and they are spread out, along the edges of the waterways. The regular nirnroot is easy enough to farm when the time comes, and the frost salts are the only ones I had to take time to find when asked for one. They seem to be slightly more rare than other items.

Jazbay is not hard to find, look in Eastmarch (I think it's called). South of Windhelm, east of Whiterun, north of The Rift. The area with the steam vents. It's the only place they grow, but they are all over the ground there.

The "special" one now is Crimson Nirnroot.

Agreed. Jazbay graqes ARE easy to find. Just go out to the steam vent section of the wilderness and spend a hour or so out there. You will find a lot of graqes! They can be a little hard to find in terms of what they look like. I assumed they grew on a bush, but they don't. They are off colored yellow bushy vines that crawl across the ground, but mostly on rocks.

Jaxbay graqes are a pain to spot but not rare, hard to tell the difference between them, the moss texture and a harvested version.

But Inguns quests is the nearest and sole quest for nirnroot, no collecting nearly all of them to get access to a super potion but for the 20 you do get a chest of respawning potions which are random and can be high level ones inside like virulent poisons and unlimited hp/mp/stam.

Super helpful. I have buying/stealing them whenever I see them, but no one seems to keep them in steady supply. Even the apothecaries seem to only have one at a time, and not all the time.
