Ambient Occlusion + Mouse Turning = ARGLE BLARGLE! : V

This is an issue I run into from time to time no matter what my setting is for Ambient Occlusion (other than just having it off of course). The effect disappears and reappears as I turn my camera.

This isn't a Skyrim issue, same thing happens in every game that NVIDIA Ambient Occlusion is applied too, it's a driver issue and NVIDIA said they are looking into it but no news yet on when's it's going to be fixed.

The simple combination of Skyrim and SSAO is broken at the moment.

There is a sort of workaround. I am using it for the last few weeks, and it seems to work OK.
Normally you enable SSAO via the Nvidia control panel, right ? And it has one option: on or off.
However, SSAO has more options. You can select Normal, High and Very High settings.
And you can select specific "profiles" for different games.
However, you can not configure those via the Nvidia control panel. You need another tool to do it.

Download "Nvidia Inspector".
E.g. from here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1..9.6.5-download-2612.html
It has 2 files, an exe and a config file (xml). Click the exe file to start the Inspector.
Look for the field: "Driver version". To the right of it is an icon with 2 little tools. Click that.
A new window pops up. In the upper left corner, select "Profiles" -> Elder Scrolls Skyrim.
The top config option should read "Ambient Occlusion compatibility". Select the option: "0x000003 (Fallout 3)".
Click Apply changes. Close the application. Start Skyrim.

Do you still see the flickering shadows ?

It worked but it did not blend well with the world...they were too dark through the 'fog' so I went back to default.

just change iBlurDeferredShadowMask=4 to 0 ( iBlurDeferredShadowMask=0 ) in skyrim ini ,then AO will work , no need for diffrent game profiles or inspector programe

Because setting it to 0 will give blocky shadows, as far as I understand.

I also remember something about the distance of rendering detailed shadows getting impacted by this setting too. But I can't find anything on the web so quickly. Anyway, I prefer to keep that option as it is, and just pick another SSAO-template.

Better use latest 0.109 version of my mod, it do ssao much better than NVidia. Turn off all color changes in the mod, if it matters or download user's made presets for it on skyrimnexus site.

I have turned AO OFF because with it ON I was CTD every 10 mins. I wont be turning it ON until Nvidia gives the go ahead.
