Delay when loading new areas or firing arrows

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:54 am

Hi All,

I have played the game through once as a mage and had no issues. I recently started a new char with archery and the game is almost unplayable.

I am having a number of issues issues:
  • When firing arrows there seems to be a delay from the time I release the mouse button to when the arrow actually leaves the bow. This happens more often after loading a save or entering a new area.
  • When approaching camps or forts in the wilderness the furniture/walls/npcs will often not load. Changing weapons seems to force the game to load the elements mentioned but sometimes I will find I am stuck under a house or inside a rock because the ground did not load before I got there.
  • This is a known issues and it can be resolved by turning off anti-anolyzing, but I thought I would just mention it anyway.
The only change I have made to the game since installing is updating the patches (this happens automatically through steam) and installing the high texture pack (I have tried turning this off and on and it does not seem to make any difference). Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Deleted code

2 questions:

Are you using a framerate limiter?
Have you disabled vsync?

No I am not using a framerate limiter.

I have disabled vsync.

Enable vsync again (check to ensure its working) and see what the results are.

I made a thread about this same issue and it was never solved, but it is definitely caused by having vsync off. A framerate limiter did nothing to resolve the issue for me, though. Having vsync enabled fixes it, but you have to deal with the terrible mouse responsiveness.

As far as I can tell the vsync is enabled and no change (I put the slider in Catalyst Control Centre to vertical refresh 'always on' and removed the iPresentInterval=0 in the Skyrim.ini file). Firing with a bow is still delayed until I change weapons.

I have noticed the sound is also delayed. So when I kill something there is no sound until a few seconds later or I change weapons.

Put iPresentInterval back into skyrim.ini but set it to 1. Also make sure it's set to 1 in SkyrimPrefs.ini.

Put iPresentInterval back into skyrim.ini but set it to 1. Also make sure it's set to 1 in SkyrimPrefs.ini.

This did not seem to work, but I just deleted Skyrim and re-installed through steam and it is working perfectly with default settings.

Thanks for the reply ill try that, are you using the high res DLC pack?

EDIT: Just reinstalled and the problem has gone, but now i have weird stuttering and i used to have perfect fps... honest to god i wish this game was fixed. Im sure ive spent more time reading forums for fixes than playing the game.

I was using the high res DLC pack before, but I am not using it now. I did not notice a significant difference between the high res pack and standard.
