1.5 sun glare shadow flickering (much worse than seen elsewh

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:12 am

Patch 1.5 has completely broken sun shadows in my game. Whenever I walked into a space that is shaded from the sun, by a tree or mountain, everything goes crazy. Screenshots can't capture it properly, but all of the shaded surfaces instantly become quite dark, and white lines appear everywhere. It's like the game only draws shadows when I am standing in them, and the result is a sort of black strobe light all over everything that is fit to cause a seizure.

It looks much worse in-game, but here you can see the white lines, and the shadow of the mountain in the background. All the shaded areas simply flash into place when I walk into where a shadow should be. They flicker and strobe, and vanish instantly when I move on. It makes the screen hard to look out.

See that shady path? It's not actually in the shade. It has just gone black because I have stepped underneath a tree.

Does anyone know how to disable sun glare shadows? Or something like that. The game isn't playable like this.

I have the same seizure inducing shadows in my game. It makes it unplayable...

No idea how to fix it though. If I did, I would be playing right now.

Yep, that's definitely the issue. Does Bethesda tech support exist? There doesn't seem to be a bugtracker.

Hey all, I had the same issues as everyone else in this thread once patch 1.5 came out. Weird lines drawn through everything, shadows bugging out...I could still play even though it was annoying.
Then I updated the drivers that came out last week for ATI.
Now my game looks like tommy's where the triangles are missing on a lot of things, and cities are all warped out and crazy looking.
I can't post links apparently (just registered to respond to this) but I have screenshots on my Steam page, same user name as forums. Its really tripped out!

I'd love to know if anyone else has had this issue or resolved it! Here's my dxdiag basics

Im having this too! Its so freaking horrible. I get migraines so the sudden jump from bright to dark and back limits my ability to play. You know, in retrospect, maybe forcing everyone to patch the game immediately was a bad idea. I kinda don't like how they dont even acknowledge us.

How to put this correctly...People at Bethesda seem to be wholly incompetent. I know, its a bit harsh but...Okay, in Morrowind, there was a bug that prevented ring textures from appearing on the world (though theyd appear in your inventory.) They were uniformy black in color. And they hadnt fixed it when Tribunal came out. And they didnt fix it when Bloodmoon came out. yet both games have unique rings. Theres no way they couldnt have noticed this. None!

They never did fix it, by the way...So I don't think they'll ever get around to fixing this. I honestly don't understand this behavior. Basically, they have done absolutely everything wrong.
