Skyrim has been experiencing a huge amount of CTDs for me lately, so I went to verify the integrity of the game cache. Apparently, 4 files were missing. However, it seems like those 4 files consisted of basically the entire game, because it took about 2 1/2 hours at ~500kb/sec to download them. After they were finished installing, I run the game and get another CTD. I verify the cache integrity again (remember, this is a mere 5 minutes after it finished downloading the last files) and once again it says 4 files are missing and wants me to download them again- probably another 2 hours.


I'm going to just reinstall Skyrim at this point (not only because of this but for other reasons as well) but I would very much like to know why this is occuring anyways. I mean, if Steam JUST downloaded the 4 missing files, how could it fail to find them only minutes later?
