On PC you can use the "setstage" command I believe, otherwise I think we have to wait for the next patch.

Not that I have found outside of a console command that will delete it from your inventory. I found the flute then got the quest and I can not return the flute. Its just stuck in my inventory.

i had hoped either killing the questgiver (im that desperate) or visiting the quest item location would fix it, tried the first and it did nothing, hopefully revisting the place i found the item will lead to a solution

I got the quest first and then found the items and I'm still carrying them around after delivering them. Not happy about the weight if it's still being added to my inventory tally.

The music instruments won't disappear from your inventory even if you get the quest first then find and return it, at least on 360. Hopefully this will get fixed in the first quest/data patch.

I haven't tested it myself, but others have posted that quest items do not actually count towards encumberance, even though they have a weight listed. If you drop/store everything possible so only the stuck quest items are there, it's supposed to be weight of zero.

Quest items are not supposed to count towards your encumbrance, even if they have a weight listed. I have not dropped all my stuff to test this, but it seems about right.

However, I am sure they will fix this in the data patch. It has happened before with these games and they usually fix it in a patch.

Oh cool, I'm happy to hear that. I'm always so encumbered! :D It doesn't bother me to see them listed; I just didn't want the weight. Thanks.
