Not connecting to Cloud - Game Crashes

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:37 am

Hey all,

I haven't been able to connect to the Steam Cloud for 3 days now. Consequently every time I try to save skyrim, or transition to a new area, it crashes. Any suggestions on how to resolve the cloud issue?

Thanks,
Farz

A. How can you resume any game if you cannot access the cloud area it was saved in? Perhaps you did not save it on "the cloud?"
B. So your complaint infers that Steam is starting OK. If it couldn't connect to the Steam servers, it would not start, unless you told it to start offline.
C. Why don't you turn off cloud sync in the Steam settings?
D. This is not a Bethesda issue, it is for the Steam forums. Why did you post it here? Didn't you read the forum rules?

Don't get me wrong, I am not attacking you. I am just calling it as I see it. I understand some ppl do not read the rules first, especially children.

I am going to read that as an attempt to try to be helpful.

A. I get an error message about the cloud when steam starts up. I do not get this when I run the game. I have no idea if this is the cause of the problem, but its likely related. To my knowledge I have never saved anything to the cloud before. What I can tell you is once the error message appeared my game started crashing.
B. Steam is running. I am able to run the game. I have not told it to run offline.
C. I turned off cloud sync. Game still crashes whenever it saves. (It loads all save files fine though)
D. Cloud 'might' be the problem. However it is a crash inside the game. I came to the forums here to see if anyone else had encountered a similar problem.

If you don't have any suggestions that's fine. I'll try steam next.

I started having the same issue today, Farzool. Steam's online, and it's worth noting that it's never done this before, and I've not done anything differently. I'm going to try verifying the game through Steam, though I doubt that will make much difference. Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions right this second, but I'll let you know if it works. -_-

HalloweenWeed, I understand you're trying to be helpful. Implying someone is a child right out of the gate for a totally innocuous (and well-spelled) post is a bit confrontational no matter how you read it, though. The OP was gracious regardless, but around here, talking down at people for no foreseeable reason can and will start a nasty flame war.

Ah, yes. Agreed. I will strive to make nicer posts. It really sounded like a Steam prob though. I apologize Farzool.

Farzool try verifying the game cache:
Steam Library --> Rclick on the game --> Properties --> Local files --> verify integrity.

Also this first part, the Steam failure to connect W/server, happened to my wife while my computer was connected. I tried multiple times in vain. Then I ran Scandisk (Chkdsk) to check the disk for errors (schedule for reboot), it reported no errors, but it was fixed after that!
