Well i have, for now at least. First let me say that i've played the game well over 200 hours and 120 of those hours were as a thief/assassin type. You know sneaking around backstabbing and sneak shot arrows. I could even two shot giants with a bow and arrow. Now that i've moved on to something different, which i'll get into, the combat is a lot better.
I am not the type of guy that likes hack and slash games, but i have to tip my hat to twohanded, heavy armor and blacksmithing type charactor.
I'm having a lot of fun with him playing the civil war quest. I'm not finish with it yet but the first two forts that i had to capture was so fun that even when i beat it i would restart just so i can play it again. The same canot be said with my assassin/sneak theif.
My Orc is level 23 atm. All perks have been put into two-handed, blacksmithing and heavy armor and thats it.
When i play the civil war quest, i have a few rules i have to have in place to make it a challenge. My game is always set on Master. When i raid the forts i put on my Imperial armor for roleplaying and gameplaying reasons that gives me only about 200 armor rating as opposed to the 345 i get from my stuff. I also do not use poitions or eat food during combat. I have a weapon that absorbs stamina, i will get one that abosrbs health so that i will never have to rely on them in other combat situations. Yesterday i spent 5 hours reloading the battle in questline two of the civil war doing this. I only beat it like 2 or 3 times. THe battle is so immersive when i'm not overpowered or constantly going to the menus for health. Archers are stong enough to pin me down, i have to stick with the other soldiers so i dont get over run, yet i always get a chance to shine out in the crowd by dealing carefully planed out power attacks. However, when i use my berserk power i get to go on a fun little rampage.
Whats also fun is the fact that my other rules i've set up for myself makes it were my orc cant hang with enemy that inflict damage other than melee cause he is not enchanted up with resist "X" type of gear. I have that feeling of power and that feeling of being helpless with certain types of enemies. I'm havign a much better time with him than i did with the same old rinse and repeat style of gameplay with being a sneaking assassin. The gameplay is just as hard as demon souls since whenever i start a raid on something i dont save it during the instance. THe only check points i get are the ones that are automatic. I die a lot and requires skill and tactics on my part to beat what ever i'm up against.
For the people that say the game is unbalaced its because YOU make it that way. The thing with this game is you have to a little creative and disciplined to find your sweet spot in combat. Combat for me is getting addticing like it was a Call of Duty online team deathmatch. It may be the same map but the fights go down different each time. Thus, i dont mind replaying it. I dont mind playing just one quest for 5 hours cause the combat is so dam fun as opposed to the my assassin who is mearly going through the motions just to complet a quest.
I never thought i could get this type of enjoyment from combat just for combats sake on a TES game. usually TES game was about exploring and roleplaying which i love as well. However, now i'm addicted to pure combat and its not only good its immersive. I really feel sorry for those people that have one godlike charactor and thus finds no fun in the game then blames the game, when really they dont realise they are the ones who are responsible for breaking it. I've spent over 50 hours with my orc and havent even completed one questline lol. I dont even use the warror stone that makes you level up faster. I've done other things that would require a whole other thread to go in detail that makes other areas of the game better. Needless to say, my orc never has too much of anything but usually just enough to get by on the skin of his teeth. I always have a little bit of gold that i have to use wisely to get by. I have found the perfect balance and thus my sweet spot. Thanks beth for making this possiable. This game is what YOU make it. If the game play is broke for you cause your overpowered then its your fault. Beth gave us the ability to choice how we want to play.
Anyhow, i'd like to read other peoples stories on what you are doing if you have found your sweet spot in combat.
