Re-installed three times same problem

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:45 pm

Hello every one I am having A bit of trouble with skyrim every time since the first time I installed the game which is:

Upon installation as normally I push the play button from steams library and the game starts up
then the game's start menu pops up and then there is no start button only install, tech support, and exit.
I have used the steam apps rout of starting the game the CD's start button and this still happen's after 3 re-installs,
any one know how to fix this I saw there was another person with the same problem But I do not want to restart from scratch.

Sorry to hear this, and I’m the other person. Read through my thread. The common perception is it was a registry issue but not really knowing how to fix that I did a Windows Re-install... Yeah, total PITA... now I still can’t play as the NPC’s won’t talk during the opening scene so we get stuck on the cart...

No one here can even make a start at helping, based on the lack of information. You might as well be running a console, given zero data about your system. {Warning: Sarcasm switched on here :dry: } Didn't anyone ever tell you that PCs are so very different from one another, that many of them cannot be used to game with? Yours possibly (probably?) CANNOT run games like this one, but who's to know? {/Sarcasm off :cool: }

Make sure the registry's Skyrim install path is correct.

click the Start Menu, go to run... type regedit
Navigate to:
Windows 64-bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim
or
Windows 32-bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim
Make sure the string Installed Path is linked to \Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim . It depends on where Steam is installed. On my computer it is D:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim, but it could be C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim.

Also you might need to navigate into your steam directory (\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim) and find the TESV.exe, right-click and select Properties. Under the compatibility tab select the option to run the program as an administrator.

I'm glad you got it working. The registry can be imprecise. I simply mentioned to most obviously places to look for it. The registry does have a search function, but it is best to not change anything unless you know what you are doing.
