I know the Hi-Res Texture pack is an auto download. When this package is downloaded into my install, does it overwrite the textures that are already installed? Or can I remove the esp. and bsa. and use the original textures?

What I want to do is remove them, and the zip them into an archive that I can install with the MOD ORGANIZER program and then remove them or add them back the install when I need to.

Do I need to modify the Hi-Res references in the ini. file as well? Or does just unchecking them in data files get the job done?

Just unchecking in the launcher will stop them from being used.

Yeah just start the launcher, click on data files and uncheck the 2 high res pack files.

I just move them to a backup folder when I'm not using them. Takes forever to copy or extract them like a mod manager would do.

Careful, Steam may think the files are no longer present and try to redownload them again. Unchecking the ESPs and leaving the files in place is the best way to remove the Hi Res Pack.

Steam doesn't seem to re-download anything I unless I do the "verify integrity" thing or there's a new update. I assumed it was the case for everyone? Sorry.

you could send an email to steam and ask them to remove the dlc hr pack, they did it for me not more than a month ago

While this is sometimes true, I've not had this issue, even when updating and verifying the cache. However, as we all know, your experience with Steam may vary

Was a new version of the high res pack released? The original released pack was bugged and caused missing textures for my game.

They may have designated the texture pack to be a mod rather than a DLC lately, so it will not try to "complete" your game for you if you remove it. However, soon after release, people who removed the texture pack, myself included, had Steam re-downloading it. Luckily I only moved my files so I could put them back. It would be nice to be able to remove them, I might try that again this afternoon.

No new version has been released. There is a http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8236 available that addresses the errors in the HRTP by replacing the affected textures with the default-resolution versions of those textures. The mod includes instructions for modifying your ini files to facilitate use of user-created texture packs alongside the HRTP.

If you want to completely remove the pack, I would recommend contacting Steam support and see if you can have it removed from your library.
