2-HD or 2 WF and blocking?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:50 am

Recently I tried to block an incomming attack with my 2-HD sword and surprisingly my block skill increased.

In my understanding the entire block-tree is built around a shield, but now I wonder, if it would make sense to spend some points into it, even when the main weapon is a 2-HD respectively if the main style is two-weapon-fighting (2 WF).

Further I noticed, that my character makes kind of a riposte with the 2-HD-sword, when I hit the RMB during block. So, the next question would be, if this would benefit from the right branch of the tree (shield bash, deadly shield bash, disarming bash).

Anyone tried that?

Some shield perks will help one or two handed weapons. Shield wall, quick reflexes are they only ones I think.

As far as a bash, yeah I don't think that's gonna work

I thought that the right side of the block tree could work on two handed weapons? At least that's what I've gleaned from the wiki: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Block

Just avoid the left side of the tree for sure, as a two hander.

And I've been following this thread with great info: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1317202-complete-character-design-freedom-damage-resist-caps-and-ridiculous-damage-thread-8/

Well wait the moving faster perk is on the left side right, although it says shield only it works with two hander as well. I thought the description or something was bugged, will test top tier skill now to see.

ok block runner on left side works with two handers as well. totally worth it by the way. tested top perk too but that's only shields... block runner is totally worth it though

My second thought was, too, that the descriptions must be wrong or at least incomplete.

Here's some non-intuitive things you might not have known about Skyrim Blocking:

* Bashing with weapons does much more damage than bashing with shields.
* Despite the in-game loading tips, Blocking with ANY weapon whatsoever is exactly the same -- a max 60% damage reduction at Blocking 100.
* The Shield Wall perk descriptions are wrong -- each level of Shield Wall actually raises your block by 10% each, so 2 ranks would be 20% (they add together)
* Block Runner and Quick Reflexes used together with a 2H weapon are incredibly useful and fun. You are basically a ninja at that point. :)
* There is a downside to blocking, unless you have turned off enemy kill animations with the console -- for the purposes of determining if an enemy does an instant kill on you, the fact that you're blocking at the time is ignored for the purposes of determining if you are at low enough health to die.
* The "Block Cap" is 85% damage reduction, which can be met with any weapon by having a 100 Block and 4 ranks in Shield Wall. You can lower the perk requirements by using a +Block Enchant. Don't ever get the fifth rank of Shield Wall if you plan on getting a 100 Block, because it's a waste... shields block a little better than weapons, and take even fewer perks to hit the cap.

PS There's more... much more... in that thread that was linked above. :)
