Disarmed

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:47 pm

Lately, I have been getting disarmed in melee combat. I'm playing on expert and am Level 26. It's getting rather tiresome to have to search for my sword while my enemy beats the snot out of me. Is there something that I can do to keep this from happening? Better weapon? Up my skill? My one-hand skill is 62.

This was happening to me for a while too, at about the same level. I switched to a bow, carried 2 or 3 bows at a time, and fought from alcoves so when I had my bow knocked out of my hand it would land right in front of me. If you feel like you have to stick with your sword, I would make a couple more and put them in your quick menu. That way you have a back-up, and can hopefully get the kill before dropping all three, you clumsy oaf..... lol

You might also consider learning the Bound Sword spell for no encumbrance back-up.

That could be it because I definitely remember it happening in a few draugr deathlord fights. I didn't realize that they had shouted at me. But I could swear that it happened when I was fighting other enemies, too, Although that could just be senility.

Good idea.

I have straight up lost a legendary glass bow and nord hero axe from those shouts. They didn't just disarm me, they knocked my weapons completely out of existence. Searched the area all over and never found them.

I would really hate for that to happen if I were carrying a one-of-a-kind weapon too...

I have my weapons quick keyed and one thing I've been doing is disarming myself when I see they're about to shout. This helps I think, then I just rearm once the shout has hit me. Haven't lost a weapon since then.

Yes, me too! There have been times when I couldn't find my sword and had to reload. How can you tell when they are about to shout?

You'll typically start to hear the audible part of the shout before the effect hits you. If you're quick enough, you can hit your hotkey (if not on PC, you can probably just bring the menu up quick) to disarm your own weapon.

Like, lets say I'm holding my axe and shield and I come upon a deathlord. He'll start the audible part of his shout so I'll quickly hit my hotkey for my axe which disarms it and brings up my fists. The shout hits me and knocks me back a little, but my weapon is safe. Then, I hit 5 again, rearm, and go after him.

It's very annoying and frustrating to lose your best weapon in the middle of a dungeon. Sometimes you find it just on the ground next to you and sometimes it's apparently sent off to some plane of Oblivion, never to be found again.

Using conjuration pretty much nullifies the problem for me. Once you've fully upgraded them, bound weapons are like weightless daedric weapons.

How do you fully upgrade bound weapons? Is it part of the Conjuration perk tree?

That used to happen to me all the time until I learned the disarm shout myself and now it never happens...

Yes. If you look at the perk tree for conjuration, there's one branch exclusively for bound weapons. The first one has the weapons do more damage (about 20% I think). Eveantually they will automatically cast Soul Trap whenever they strike, and they can also unsummon enemy daedra and undead.

Thanks. I hadn't been paying much attention to the bound weapons branch of the tree.

Nothing helpful to add, but I also HATE that Disarm shout. We need a shout for Recover Weapon.

Have to admit the first time I got disarmed I laughed my ass off, It was so unexpected. Then I wanted to cry when I couldn't find my enchanted ebony greatsword.

They drove me nuts! Especially the one who kept teleporting around into 3 different people. I finally stopped using melee combat with him and summoned a fire atronach and used a fireball spell on him myself from across the room. Took forever, but I finally beat him.

to my knowledge, there is only 1 sword that cannot be disarmed but can be upgraded. fortunately, there are ways to keep this weapon as a quest item even after the quest. this sword is enchanted so it cannot be custom enchanted. upgrading is more important anyway, as high level smithing will get you to 100+ damage. exploited smithing can get you to 500+ damage.

Red Eagle's Fury

alternately, as mentioned, you can unequip your item if you are fast. or you can use the shout 'become ethereal' before they finish.

Yep, experienced this earlier. I have a bad-ass ebony bow which deals heaps of damage. I met up with an equally bad-ass Draugr Death Lord who likes to use the disarm shout. Needless to say I was forced to reload. *hiss*

Never mind the fact that the Disarm shout stops working after a while as you get to higher levels. I think the highest level it will work on (after you learn all three words of the shout) is 40. It's one thing I wish there was a fix for. A number of things cease to be effective after a certain point.

Ran into this problem again last night. I had just crafted and improved a pair of ebony daggers for my assassin character while in a dungeon and came upon a death lord. I had just entered the area and killed a lesser Draugr with the Death Lord behind me so I didn't see him coming. He started the shout so I went to disarm myself but for some reason, hotkeying while dual-wielding causes strange things to happen and I only put away one dagger. The other was blasted god only knows where...

Luckily, I had saved not too long before that and reloaded it when I couldn't find my dagger. I swear to god I completely lose the weapon more often than not.

This is one of the few benefits I have found to playing on XBOX. By bringing up the quick menu, you can actually pause the game and make the decision to put away both, one, or switch out one or both, without the possibility of error, at least on the game's side.

Wait, what? You say the PC is better becau...... Shut up and let me have my moment. I have to look at all your HD screen shots, let me have this.

Not sure if it's intentional, but this shout seems to have a mid range effect of disarming your weapons/shield while still leaving it in your inventory. The loss of my sword (but not shield) only happened when the deathlord was quite close.
