I am having trouble getting past the girl on the college bridge. everytime I try to take the test and get the choice of persuade or take the test she will not accept presuade and if I try take the test then I get another box appear with "no thanks I wont bother" in it so I cannot get into the college.

Have I hit a bug or am I doing something wrong?

You can't simply cast a spell on the symbol on the ground? It's hard to persued her without high speech. She should ask you for a test. Then tell you what spell to cast. You have to cast that spell on the symbol

Some people RP a very cheap character (which does not mean they are cheap in real life) and will not pay for anything. It's getting really hard now to advance into some Locations (Winterhold College) or Main Quests (Horn of Jergen Windcaller) where the player is required to pay double digits amount of Coins which he will not get back.

To get into the College of Winterhold the gatekeeper asked me to cast a Restoration spell on her. I didn't know the spell she askes for varies between players.

the first time i went there she asked me to cast flames or something, and I cast it at her and she wasnt very pleased to say the least... I think i set the record for shortest time ever as a cadet

This is an excellent example of why you should actually listen to what a questgiver says.
