enchanting is important because you can take any bow and put enchantments on it, evenutually double enchantments, i play a mage but i and skilled in archery so i use it for long range stealth kills...but for armor, it depends how you want to play but i owuld use light armor...take plenty of archery perks, eagle eye. slow time, crtical chance perks etc. invest in sneak skill, muffle boots.

well it depends. if you are just an archer you could go with heavy armour. if youre planning on doing some sneaking and thieving i would recommend light armour or no armour at all (my thief wears no armour just hammerfell garb)

also if you arent going to be using the sneak attacks i recommend using enchantments to substitute the damage

I am a High Elf stealth archer, I use light armour to remain quick and nimble. Initially I dumped my perk points into Overdraw on the archery perk tree. Overdraw boosts damage by 20% per perk, up to 5 levels, that's 100% more damage. As you level up archery other beneficial perks will open up. Eagle Eye allows you to zoom while pressing block with an arrow drawn, although this uses stamina it doesn't really affect an archer. Steady hand slows time when you draw allowing you to hit your target before they move. Quick shot is another I use as it allows you to draw faster, which essentially allows you to get more arrows into your target before they get to you, really useful for melee attackers. Initially I kept 3 to 4 differently enchanted bows in my favourites to use on different targets. Now I use 2, a bow with the Stunning enchantment, which provides the chance to paralize, and I also use a bow with the soul trap enchantment. Make sure to collect arrows whenever you can. The tougher the enemy use the arrow with the highest dmg you currently have, as it adds to the dmg of the bow.

My other main focus was to collect things that had the fortify archery attached to them to wear during combat to boost overall bow damage. There is a perk in the sneak perk tree (Deadly Aim), requires a sneak of 40, that allows bows to do 3x their base damage during a sneak attack, very crucial in my opinion. I am hitting for almost 1000 dmg on a sneak attack with my bow now and most targets don't even see me coming because they're already dead. Also whenever the opportunity arises make sure to upgrade your bows on the grindstone which also improves base dmg.

head to town immediately do the lovers' triangle quest , cockblock sven. Now you'll have a comoanion that'll train you in archery as you move along. For the irst levels this either allows you to super-pump your archery , or you can work on other things like onehanded/2handed skills alteration if you're lucky and find muffle quickly , use your imagination after that.Archery in this game is rewarding when you actually practice it and find proper lead times and start downing enemies on the run towards you without using the slow time perk.I stay in sneak mode even if seen and they're coming for me , more than once I've popped a crit attack in the middle of combat. The bow can be a bit more awkward than just spamming spells or swining a weapon , after all , you're drawing a mechanical device strong enough to kill even giants.Plan your escape routes , plan your actual shots in combat even against minor enemies the practice pays off in emergency situations. If you have the bow drawn and something like a giant or something else strong is breathing down your neck loose the shot and haul it , don't wory about hitting that pot-shot accurately you gotta get moving.

My new experiment is using illusion cost reduction ring and neck to be able to cast fury/mayhem from stealth and retreat from the comabt until hidden again , while adding a nice frost rune to the area in a bottleneck just in case.

As has been mentioned, a few Bow variations set in the hotkeys helps. I'd like to add poisons, poisons, poisons. Health being the primary one but if you're up against a boss, a fire vuln poison added to a fire Bow then followed up with a few more shots = dead boss fairly quickly.

Not being a fan of slowing down the action, I've set my hotkeys in the following way:

1 - heal
2 - stam
3 - highest dmg health poison
4 - fire bow
5 - drain magika bow
6 - soul trapper bow
7 - fire poison
8 - lingering poison

Another tip is always keep an arrow nocked. You can keep it nocked through searching dead enemys, chest and other containers as well as opening doors and even moving to new areas. This will give you an edge and the jump on anyone who might be standing at or near the doorway when you load into a new area [or enter a room].

Just nock your arrow and hold it then hit the 'use' key at the door and let it load [or open] - while holding the arrow - keep it held during the loading screen for when the new area loads and you'll still be drawn and primed when it does. Anyone standing there gets a surprise!

Use arrows to draw attention to an area or pull an Enemy out from cover. They make a noise when they strike an object or wall. If you see an enemy walk behind cover, [who also doesn't know you're there] shoot an arrow somewhere near that cover [but far enough away from you that you won't draw their attention] to draw them out and expose them to you so you can do a sneak attack.

I focused on health in the early levels. Now I go back and forth about every 3 levels. So for three levels I add health then the next three I add Stamina.

As you start adding Archery Perks you'll find your stamina will start draining a touch more [like when using Steady Hand]. Ultimately it's going to depend on how good your armor is [if you find you need more health / are not adding Armor Perks] whether or not you allow Enemies to get into range to do melee damage [ranged enemies can ususally be dodged or hidden from] and how much damage you can deal with or without the Sneak bonus.

With a good amount of potions [especially in your hotkeys] raising Health becomes more a question of whether or not you're getting one shotted. If you can't hit the Health potions fast enough or if you don't even have a chance too [getting one shotted], raise it up. If you're running out of Stamina too often before the fight is over, raise Stamina.

At higher levels it becomes easier to keep enemies at bay - with Quick Shot / Power Shot combo and ultimately the Bullseye Perks which has a chance to paralyze. Of course you can always add Paralyzing poisons to your hotkeys - which would be another viable method to avoid getting into direct melee combat for a pure archer type.

I basically just maxed out the Archery tree, wear light armor or robes, pumped sneak to high hell and can kill nearly anything before I get touched.

Well I'm on my second play through now and I decided to make my guy a pure mage, absolutely no weapons.
Then I was like, hmmm what about bows so I started doing a little archery.
( long story short, I focus on magic but use bows when I want to sneak )

In reality you can wear light or heavy, it doesn't really matter because there are perks to get rid of noise on both types of armor.
So I would say throw your perks in Archery and Sneak because they both help bows out.
As for putting perks in armor, I have zero perks in either light or heavy, yet I can still take the beating and not die.
That's a matter of opinion though, put the rest of your perks wherever you'd like as long as you focus on Archery and Sneak.

Why are you distressed?

I hate to be that guy, though after a month with Skyrim I have become that guy. Skyrim is easy. On the default difficulty, the game was clearly designed to be perfectly fun for any old random character. Wear any armor you want. Wear no armor. Use a hunting bow for the entire game. Smith it to improve it or not. Enchant, brew potions -- or don't bother. You'll be fine. You might die once or twice. Reload and try again. Fun!

Just get a nice bow and sneak alot. Have a sword for backup. That's it.

You can do all the things others are telling you, but unless you are trying to become some Mac Daddy Godlike thing just have fun with doing the basics. Honestly I've never felt bad that I wasn't doing 300+ points of damage with my bows.

Sneak perk tree up to the top. 3x damage is a big help and staying hidden at distance is huge.
Archery perk tree for damage, critical hits and zooming.
Be prepared to spend 18 perk points in these two skills.
Alchemy perk tree. Get to better poisons.
Easier to sneak in light armor.
Arrows have never been a problem. I never keep falmer or iron arrows in my inventory. Eventually, I get rid of the steel and Nord arrows as well.
