Does anyone know where I can find a flawless ruby?
I need it for the Pyrite daedric quest.

I've been finding them in urns/burial urns since around level 17 or so.

There's one Shriekwind Bastion, just north of Falkreath. There's a throne room with several rubies on top of some urns and one is flawless.

Mine ores, check urns, and loot mages.

You'll find one that way eventually. Took me a while to get one for that quest too. You'll come across one eventually... took me probably 3 other side quests to find one.

I've only found one that wasn't randomly placed;

Near the end of the Dark Brotherhood main quest, you have to kill someone on a ship called Katariah. In his bedroom, there should be one on a dresser or table.

i heard some merchants sell them. also when you do the stormcloak/imperial legion quest to go get the helm, theres one in a bowl on a ledge in the throne room. gonna need a bow some arrows to get to it though. it was a real pain for me because i didn't have any then i remembered i had a telekinesis spell and starting chucking ruined books at it to knock it down.

At higher levels you'll find them with no problems but if your around the level where you 1st start the quest. Mining will have to be the easiest way although it's random, I got mine off of the one big guy you get the contract from for the Dark Brotherhood quest line.

Good thing I'm a mass looter when it comes to anything of particular value. Any gems, jewelery, books, potions, weapons, armor, ingots, etc I make sure my houses are stocked right full. Just moved into Proudspire Manor not too long ago and I think my previous house in Riften had more storage containers, I like to keep things seperate. A wardrobe for armor, a chest for weapons, a dresser for potions, a shelf for books, a box for gems and jewelery, you get the idea. I'm angry there aren't any storage units in the basemant and poor Jordis the Sword Maiden has to sleep on a glorified rag on the rock floor.

Ah anyway, I found alot of flawless rubys in ore veins. Grab a pickaxe and head to a mine. Start mining some ore from the veins and along with the ore you produce you usually get gems. If you don't have a pickaxe there's usually one somewhere just inside the mine. I recommend you try checking around at some the shops first, Hit up Madesi in the open market district in Riften. He's an Argonian Jeweler and should have some decent flawless gems available for purchase.

Best to get it here as you will also need vampire dust and there are vampires in this tomb. So you get two items in one go

I also keep all the gems I loot. Not sure why. I was really surprised to see that in the most expensive house in the game my housecarl sleeps on the dusty floor.

Near the midden entrance there a skeleton with a deer head that had rubies for eyes, can't remember if there are flawless though.

^ theres something to dislike about all the houses, shame the most expensive is lacking is so many areas though, shame breezehome in whiterun doesnt have an enchanter or it'd be perfect, yeah the castles not far but to have it in or just outside would have been great, I like the riften house but lack of storage in the basemant lets it down and the town has no smelter (but it has plently of tanning racks..theres an item they loved to use)

Like 99% of the loot in Skyrim, it's random and level-based. You won't find a flawless anything at level 2. When you hit a high enough level, nearly every gem is flawless. You find them in ore or burial urns, people's pockets etc.

Last one I found was in a vein of iron ore. If you stop looking for one and just open all containers, one will pop up eventually.

The one in the small ship south of Kolksegger (sp?) mine is always flawless.
