If u sell your thieves guild armor, you can't use tonilia as a fence or even interact, making some thieves guild quests impossible. The ps3 version of the game has no console commands so if u sell your armor, your screwed! There needs to be a patch for this

Your options are at the moment (in order):

1. Buy it back from whoever you sold it to
2. Load a save where you haven't sold it yet
3. Forget about the quest line
4. Start from scratch

If you read any basic walkthrough for the theives guild (or watch it on youtube) they will tell you to STORE your stuff from theives guild in a chest. Whats more is Brynjolf tells you not to sell it because you will need it later.
that is of course if you listen to the chats and not just skip them all.

Rule of thumb in all elder scrolls games - unless you're positive an item isn't unique store it somewhere.

In fact he says to go to Tonilia to get a piece of armor upgraded. Which everyone should do promptly to avoid this situation.

Yes. Later in the quest line you are to receive the Guild Master's Armor set from her. However, you cannot do this before you upgrade a piece of your old armor.

That's one way to see it. Personally, I'd prefer that upgrading the armor was optional instead of preventive.

It really svcks for those not on PC. They should have an option to pay a fine or something for selling the armour.

Not exactly a glitch, just people not knowing that the thieves guild armour is required in order to advance through the guild quest line.

They shouldn't put something as restrictive as this.
The dark brother hood doesn't have this issue. And they have multiple sets are armor as well.

ok here is a problem i'm having with the thieves guild questline, i join the thieves guild, and get to the point of going to tonilia for the guild armor to get it for the first time, i can't do that, it just lets me buy things from her but she gives me no set of armor, i can't go to vex or the other guy for additional jobs, wtf? i save that point of the game and try to make another character and try to get into the thieves guild at the start of the game after making it and getting out of the cave to make it to whiterun, then i go to riften to get intot he thieves guild, after i am told to go to those others like vex to get info for goldenglow, i can't get anything out of her, she just pushes me away and says that she's not there to hold my hand, how can i get info out of her? its the same for any character i make to get into the thieves guild and get armor. someone really messed up the game.

You're own darn fault for messing up your own game, sorry. Seriously though why sell it? It can't be worth THAT much to convince me to break my game over it...
